I'm next door in AZ, you don't see too many palm trees in other places! I can't wait to start on my own, I want to start sanding now! I'll be watching your build, make sure to take plenty of pictures.

thats a 32 inch crt in there? That cabinet must be huge!

how will you move it, and is everything just glued and a screw from the side?

Sure is. The cabinet is 33 1/2 wide 41 inches deep and that bad boy barley fits..lol and I got some pretty good bracing on the inside.. moved it a few times and was pretty sturdy with the Sony in it

Hey I'm in bakersfield too!  Welcome

That thing MUST be heavy as all hell!

You are gonna have to laminate that thing, no other way to get a good finish on it.  Did you cut a slot for the t-molding already?  PM me if you have any questions about stuff.

As for a theme, a lot of people name their cabs after one of their old favorite arcades.

Gonna be hard to route out a t-molding slot without taking the whole thing apart.  You want the router to rest on the surface of the board and the board to be pretty stable.  You try to route it assembled like that and the board will flex and shake and it will be impssoible to control the router and get a good channel cut.

Don't buy stuff off of ebay, just order direct from the vendors on this site.  If you are going 4 players, you can get an ipac from andy at ultimarc.com and I think divemaster is the US vendor here in the US.

You can also order a LONO from paradise arcade, I just tried out the board, its super simple to set up.

check out my build in my signature to see what I have made, and if you are thinking about something similar let me know.

I ended up going with veneered ply in my build.  Thought about laminate in the early going, but couldn't find any locally, and form looking around, it was expensive.

Yeah, if you wanted to do a ps3/mame console, it would be the same steps.  You can get a MS refurbed 360 for 99 bucks from gamestop, so that was a no-brainer for me.

You don't have a PC?  If I can get the P4 I was originally going to use in good shape I'd let that go to you pretty cheap.  I have a few miscellaneous parts too, so let me know if you are looking for stuff.

What type of games are you looking to play?

Killer instinct runs fine on the P4.  Tekken doesn't run well, but it does on ZINC.  Golden Tee runs fine.

If you really want to run everything that's playable, you should get a core 2 duo. You can find an off lease one off of ebay for under 200 bucks.

Not sure if I want to ditch it yet, I may use it for a bar top, or a console/htpc build.  IF I were to let it go, I'd probably let go for around 60 bucks, its got a radeon card on it with video out, 1.5 gb of Ram and is a 3.0ghz p4.  Not too shabby, but I am sure you can probably find a similar rig for a similar price

How thick is that wood?  No stairs, out here in bakersfield we believe in sprawling ranch style houses.

Once you get done...it might be a PITA to put if your place..hopefully you have a 36" door opening..most doors are 32"....unless you have a patio door then you shouldn't have a prob moving it inside.

I got mine from t-molding.com.  No place locally that I can think of.  I am pretty sure you are going to have to order the laminate.

Most of the stuff I got for my build I ended up getting online, the only things I bought locally were tools and wood.  I bought my slot cutter on-line, my router bits online, my forstner bits online...

You have a MKII machine? Sweet!

You gonna get a coin door for that thing?

Maybe you could bondo, sand to a smooth finish and then paint instead of laminating it?

Get a beat up old coin door, there was a nice one up for sale on here a week or two ago with mechs.  You can find them on ebay pretty cheap, they are easy to clean up

Where did you get the cab from?  Did you buy it local?

You don't have a spare pc laying around?  I'm gonna kick the tires on my P4 this weekend.  I'll let you know early next week if I'm going to let it go.

My buddy is getting ready for baby number one.  Thinking about making him a bar top and using the P4 as a "welcome to fatherhood" present.  But I don't know if I have time to do that, and the wife is on ---my bottom--- about clearing out some stuff, so I'll keep you posted.

Apparently there are a couple of operators around.  Found this in a google search:
R & M Amusements
5640 Dst Boulevard # 109
Bakersfield, CA    9331
(661) 845-2392

Games N More
214 Kentucky St.
Bakersfield, CA. 93305
(661) 397- 4577

B'n D Video Vending
(661) 834-6104
3686 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309

I am not sure if they are still in business, but it wouldn't hurt to call and see if they have any parts from broken machines they would be willing to sell/give you.

Check your wiring.  Make sure you used the normally open connection and  not the normally closed.  Also if you touch the wires together that are connected to a switch do you get the same behavior.  That should tell you if its the encoder or switch wiring.
