The new update for SKG Jukebox, version 0.85, is available for download. The biggest change is the use of an XML file to load the music library. The first time you run the program after installing the new version, it will save information about your music collection called Library.xml. This file will be in the resources directory in the Windows version, and in the /home/
username/SKG Jukebox directory in the Linux version. The program will then use this file to load the music information from then on, instead of doing a recursive directory search. This should significantly decrease initial startup time, especially for very large album collections.
There are some issues with this approach. If you add new albums using something other than the integrated CD ripper, the program won't know about it. And if you remove any albums, the program will still try to load them from the file, and will crash on startup. To fix this, just delete the Library.xml file, or use the new Reload Library button on the Options screen. Of course, if you add albums using the integrated ripper, they will appear just fine. Other fixes include:
- About button on the Option screen shows version information, so you will always know if you are running the latest version.
- Page up and Page down key will scroll the album collection forward and back by a full letter.
- Various bug fixes and improvements for code efficiency.
On that note, I would like to say that development of the jukebox is going to be on hiatus for a while. I will still be monitoring the boards and my e-mail, and if an issue comes up that needs to be fixed, i will do another update. But, I want to spend time on the SKG Gamebox. I would like to get it in a state where it is running and ready for beta testing in the winter. I still would like as much feedback as possible, though, and keep an eye on these forums for news and initial screenshots for the SKG Gamebox, a multiple emulator frontend with internet connectivity for screenshot downloading and game information.
