Bad Teacher
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:37:37 am »

I really wanted to love this movie, but couldn't quite. Someone I'm really impressed with though is Justin Timberlake. He's turning out to be a competent actor. True, only comedy roles so far, but he's definitely got something going for him when he was the only redeeming feature of Love Guru, where he played a French Canadian ice hockey star...

3/5

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - The Way Back, The Kings Speech, Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me, Watchmen, The girl with the dragon tattoo

4/5 - True Grit, Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

Still had a few good laughs, though, and it deserves an Academy Award for Cameron's make up.

 :laugh2:

She's the main reason I don't want to see it. I'm having a hard time buying it.

Cameron Diaz is proof Hollywood really can do truly authentic looking facial CG people and that Tron Legacy just got it wrong.

Yeah, she really has not aged well

Its cause she had meat on her bones when she debuted in 1994 with the mask, then she got extremely skinny, and then plumped up again. That little dance routine in charlies angels was hard to watch. I felt guilty, like I was watching a 10 year old boy dance around in his undies.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Eh, her face is messed the hell up from acne scars.. definitely one of those celebrities that didn't transition well to HDTV.

She didn't have too much skin on her bones when she was in those fetish videos so don't know what mike is talking about.

I have to say i have been impressed with Justin Timberlake's performances to date I think he can become a real good and popular actor if he got into more roles

I have seen some previews of the movie and am undecided if I should see it in the Movies or wait till it's on dvd

Well, it's a lot more painful for some and messy than the movies make it out to be.  Doesn't really feel that different, either.

Uhmm.... did I go to the gay porn again?

Yeah, I don't think he's going to have as outstanding transition as Will Smith, but still worth looking out for I think

Well let's not compare Apples and Rotten Oranges here.  Will Smith was on a hit sitcom for years before he ever got his first film role.  His rap career was actually going on at the same time as the sitcom, so he wasn't a artist (ugh I hate using that term in regards to a "back street kid on the block nsync") who transitioned to film, he was a popular actor who was also a popular artist.  And yes I know that JT still does music, but my point is he has more musical experince than acting.

Also Smith has range, Timberlake doesn't.  Until he does something like Ali, The Pursuit of Happiness or I am Legend I don't think we can say he's a good actor.  Being a straight man in a string of poorly written comedies isn't terribly hard.

I think it's less about him being a good actor and more about him being the only competant actor in a film full of hacks.

Will Smith put himself on Hollywood's map with Six Degrees of Separation.  That gay con man role was so alien to any prior public perception of him that it was either going to make or destroy his movie career.  He was excellent and jumped straight from there to leading man status.  Note that was barely halfway through his sitcom run.

Thats funny, I have never even seen that movie. I like Will Smith and all, but I dont think he has that much range. He plays the same dude in every movie. Bad Boys, I, Robot, I am Legend, Hancock... The list goes on. I hate when he does that stupid sad, lip quivery look too, like when he is trying to be all hard, especially in the scene where he kills the dog in I am Legend. I dunno, just kind of got old for me. I dont even know what to think about Men In Black 3... Heard the production has had a lot of speed bumps...  :-\

You might want to see Six Degrees of Separation as well as Ali, Six Pounds (crappy movie but not his fault), The Pursuit of Happyness, or The Legend of Bagger Vance.

Sounds like he plays the same dude in every movie you've seen because you've only seen the same type of movie.   ;D

I think his best performance by far was The Pursuit of Happyness.  He was really good in Ali too but it just wasn't a very good movie.

Ok you got me. Youre probably right.  :lol I havent seen any of the movies you mentioned, tried watching Ali but I fell asleep. Ill have to get The Pursuit of Happyness, Im sure my GF would want to watch that one, its kinda chick flicky right?

I also think Jaden Smith is a little punk. Saw him on some interviews after the KK remake, and man, he is a smug little ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

The problem with JT is that he was with a boyband, so nobody will take him serious, don't see him as getting all jacked to be in an action movie like Will Smith, being a rapper makes it easier to have people take you seriously.

Also, who cares about range?  Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis play pretty much the exact same dude in every movie.

Bruce Willis is pretty versatile, even if he did get boxed in as an action star. Just watch Death Becomes Her, Willis pretty much plays the polar opposite of his usual role.

When Harrison Ford is plays too far from his base role, it can be painful to watch.

Timberlake might want to consider becoming 5-6" taller and changing his basic frame, too.

Why? Tom Cruise is like 5-5 and is a ---fracking--- billionaire.  Most actors are pretty little.

We're talking about being as credible an action hero as Will Smith.  Size matters.  Nobody considers Tom Cruise an action hero.  Action heroes have to be tall, short and jacked, or Harrison Ford.  Justin Timberlake doesn't have the frame to be any of the three.

Hrm... this generation's Harrison Ford?  I didn't think he was all that great in the Bourne movies.  Bonus points for ---smurfing--- Sarah Silverman.

Perhaps, although Damon never got to play any major iconic roles.

So now we are having a discussion over which dudes do the best job pretending to be other dudes?  Come on people, lets get back on track. Who cares?  THe only discussion about people in movies should revolve around best rack, or some sort of permutation.  As in, "that was a ---smurfy--- chick flick, but at least there was one scene in it with a nice pair"  Or even something like, "That movie sucked, but so and so sure is PURDY!"  But hey, if you want to go on and on about how so and so chick flick was decent but what made it great was how some dude is really good playing pretend... well....

Probably because he wasn't a credible action hero.   ;D

Sounds like Donkbaca slipped and fell in his insecurity again.
