Hi,

Anyone ever see / tested a "SCART to s-video + 3,5" audio converter" ?

I've seen one on a local store and I'ld like to know if is any good, because here (Portugal) it's difficult to find TV set's with s-video input at a fair price.

Works fine, but your TV must support S-video through the SCART!

I don't know what a 3,5" audio converter is - unless you mean the cable with one 3.5mm stereo jack on one end (that goes into you PC's soundcard) and two RCA plugs on the other (that go into the red and white sockets on the converter).

It's "kinda" what you said, but it's a straight cable. Here ... I've found a photo of it:


How can we tell if a TV set accepts that type of signal ? Isn't the cable / converter capable of making the convertion ?

Look in the manual that came with your TV, or, if you've lost it, use the TV's remote to bring up the menu on screen, and search through the options to see if anything mentions "AV1 -> S-video".

My TV calls it SVHS instead of S-video (SVHS is a videotape format).



When I said "converter", I actually should have said "adapter". There is no signal conversion taking place. The SCART connector supports 3 different types of signal: composite, S-video and RGB.

If the TV does not accept S-video (the picture will be in black and white), then you will need an S-video to composite converter.

Thanks again for the tips... they are very helpfull.
Just one thing... I've read around that s-vhs and s-video are diferent types of signals so beware ... you may yet improve your image if you have that in count ...

By the way ... found an adapter like yours ... and cheaper then the cable ...
