Question about my monitor.
« on: September 05, 2003, 01:37:49 am »
Hey guys. I've got an old Sony 21" monitor from about 20 years ago, that doubles as a TV. My dad was able to get it off his bank before they shutdown.

Basically, since it is a monitor, and not a TV, using the Dreamcast/Xbox etc hooked up gives it crystal clear resolution, the likes you'd normally see if you used a VGA Box to hook up to a regular monitor. Everything is crystal clear, and you can read individual letters on games like Shenmue, when on a normal TV it is a blurred mess. A good example of this type of monitors would be those old Commodore ones that were popular in the 80's.

Unfortunately however, using the PC to TV device I have, (a relatively crap video converter, I hope to get a GEForce 4 MX with TV out in the future) the video quality comes out VERY poor, blurry and the screen seems to shake alot. I don't know whether it is the crappy converter, or just the simple fact it's trying to be outputted onto a TV rather than a monitor... but it's rather disapointing as the resolution is smeary and just ugh.

What I was wondering, is whether buying a new TV out card, like the afromented GEForce4 would help in the resolution department. I'm pretty sure that it would give a much nicer picture, I would just like to know if there is anyway I can utilize the actual monitors sharp resolution, whether the GEForce would do that or not.

Thanks

I use to run an S-Video security monitor (not a television), just like you had, and I was less than happy with the results, although I was using a Voodoo 3 TV out card, which isn't supposed to have the best TV out in the first place.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
