Questions about printing artwork
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:13:22 am »
I have access to an Epson 9900 wide format printer from a local print shop. I have the ability to print my cabinet artwork there as long as I supply the media rolls. I have a few questions for the "pros" out there...

1. It is my understanding that most of the original cabinet artwork would have been screen printed vs. inkjet printing (which I will be doing). What are the major differences in reproduction and quality between the two?

2. One some websites that sell arcade art, list some bezels and marquees as "screen printed plexiglass". I take it this would have been how the games were originally produced, directly on the plastic as opposed to sandwiching a inkjet sheet of paper between sheets of clear plexiglass?

3. Any specific suggestions to brands or products for media types? I would assume for the side art I would want some kind of adhesive vinyl and then the control panel, bezel and marquess just a heavyweight paper sandwiched between plexiglass?

4. Also for the side art would there be any method of clear coating or varnishing the inkjet print without making a mess of the print?

Any input is most appreciated!
