Safety precuations with LCD monitors?

Okay, so i know that CRT monitors and tube style tv's store vast amounts of volts within them after being turned off. Do LCDs have the same issue?

The reason i'm asking is that i sourced a 21.3inch Samsung Syncmaster 210T (£40 of epay ) for my cab and to be able to rotate the screen, requires it to be decased, obviously whilst doing any work i will have it unplugged.

Am i safe to touch the metal casing? Getting zapped isn't fun

Don't know, never really seen anyone decase an LCD since the bezels are generally small, except for the large tv's they use in virtual pin setups.  I would do a search for those threads and see if there is any mention of danger.

The backlight inverter (CCFL backlit models) puts out a few thousand volts, but only while the set is running.  There are some caps in the power supply area that hit about 180V (120V AC land, higher in 240V land), and that may persist after the set is off, though most designs will drain it within a minute or so.

The metal covers should be safe.

thanks for the replies, probably the only electrical components i will need to touch will be the small on/off/volume circuit board, all the rest will stay snug within the metal casing.

I was hoping to leave the monitor cased, but the diagonal of the full case is half an inch wider than my cab, easier to decase than to rebuild

I think the backlight and power supply may have some high voltage stuff.   I think the LCD itself is very low voltage.
