Yes , I tested almost all of them.

The only thing is that you need a vertical oriented screen for vertical shooters (i tried to rotate the screen with irotate or my nvidia drivers but it doesn't work on my CRT screen). There are few more games like KOF XIII, KOF Maximum Impact Regulation missing from you list.

Street Fighter IV with 2nd player keyboard support, no intros, no login, & no extra menus to confuse my guests?
 :applaud:

(It's a shame the version Capcom sold me required so many patches and hacks just to get it to work on a cab)

It works here, but I have to insert credits and start the game before the video starts, video hangs but audio continues if I let the intro vid play.

do you get that too?  if not, do you have any codecs installed?

Haven't tried it yet.  (in the process of downloading them now)

I'll let you know.
If it does the same thing on my system, I'll write an autohotkey script to launch it, insert credits & press start.

I haven't tried street fighter IV, mostly because the arcade version is missing characters compared to the home version.

No, this version does not have 2 player support.

Ok I'll ask the dumb question.

What is this exactly?  Disc images from the real arcade machines... arcade ports?  More info please.

If I rotate before launching the game it works, but stretches the game fullscreen, so everything is super wide.
It might not look so bad on a 4:3 monitor.

If I launch it without rotating, it works fine, but everything is sideways.  Guess it would be a good time to have a rotating monitor.
It would be nice to figure out how to run it in a sized window.

It works here, but I have to insert credits and start the game before the video starts, video hangs but audio continues if I let the intro vid play.

Works fine here, other than there being no P2   :'(

Do these save backup data to the same drive letter as Blazblue:Continuum Shift?  (I think it was D)

The arcade hardware was off the shelf PC parts running windows xp.

I'm not sure what kind of protection was in place or how these files differ from what was on the original hard drive.
Must be at least some amount of hackery.

These are done exactly the same way as Blazbue: Continuum Shift which made the rounds a while back.
I'd read more had been cracked, but they were difficult to find until now.

Someone seems to have assembled a collection and passed it around.  :)

That's simultaneously cool for us (some of these games don't play nice with mame cabs or just flat out aren't available in the US) and bad for the industry.

That being said I sure hope the new pengo and pacman arcade games get dumped... pretty sure they run on pc-based systems as well.

If the games are rendered in a standard window then it should be possible to re-size the window via the windows api.  The question is if the game itself with recognize the siz echange and render accordingly.

The strange thing is that i managed to run the games rotated on my lcd, but somehow it doesn't work on the 4:3 CRT TV (it doesn't crash but just runs it rotated anyway). Maybe if I was able to run the games windowed i could make it work.

I think f5 enables window mode in some of the games.

Odd.  They worked after rotating with irotate last night, but won't work like that this morning.  ???
Maybe a setting from the last time they were ran is screwing something up.

F5 doesn't seem to work on any of the vertical games.
Didn't have time to try the others.

Actually I was going to chime in to say how much FASTER SFIV runs compared to the pc port.  SFIV (pc) on my machine runs just fine, but during the intro scenes it drops a frame or two, and believe me, my machine is a beast.  The arcade version runs and boots much faster.

You know, after doing some research, the pcbs for the taito systems isn't that expensive... around 200 bucks.  If we could get a version of mame ready for xp embedded (which shouldn't be hard) it might be the cheapest mame cab build ever!.

Also a couple of things to note in the arcade version of SF IV:

Networking apparently works!  Or at least it properly detects my ip address during startup.

The game uses essentially the same files as the pc version.  Some people have already applied mods for the pc version of the game to the arcade version.  This *might* mean that we can get the missing characters like cammy in there.

This is the one player version that's popular in japaneese arcades... there IS a two player version out there, we'll just have to wait and see if it gets released.

If you guys can definatively figure out how to properly rotate the game I should be able to whip something up to correct the aspect.

Btw, does anybody have any info on the "scratch drive" option from the config?  The current way to config buttons is terrible, and I would like to have a go at making a better one.

I only started it up a few times and played halfway through a fight to test it, but it seemed to run full speed.
2.6Ghz Athlon x2 (old socket AM2), 4GB DDR2, Nvidia 8600GT, Vista 64 Home Premium

Howard- Not sure what the scratch drive means.  I don't remember that being one of the things to configure with Continuum Shift.
That game saved service menu info (country, language, hi scores) to drive D with no way to change it.
If you didn't have a drive D, it would just load the default(Japan) every time.
I just stuck an old 128mb flash drive in the back of the computer and assigned it to that letter.

Perhaps this is an option to allow you to choose the drive info is stored on.

I don't think there will be a way to rotate it "properly".
The best case scenario would be to use an autohotkey script and irotate to black out the screen, rotate & launch the game in a window with a black frame (and rotate back on exit).
I did that for vertical shmups in Makaron.

Eeek, that d drive thing is awful!  Guess what's on my D drive for this machine?  The factory restore partition!!!   I looked and the games are indeed saving their info on there.  Luckily the files are so small that it doesn't hurt anything.

I read on another forum (and if you read the text in the config dialog) that it also stores input information.  I'm afraid to mess with it without more info.

By "properly rotate" I meant reliably get the games to rotate without crashing.  I know a bit of hackery is going to have to be done here.  ;)

Btw I just tried blazblue and it's graphics are screwed up... anyone else run into this problem?

I looked at the arcade version of sfiv a bit more and the files are IDENTICAL to the pc version except for the missing characters.  I might try to add them in later if I get time.  The only thing that would stop them from working would be if the EXE specifically calls the individual files instead of using a cfg file or lookup table.

It's the default settings on your video card, but I'm not sure I remember which one at the moment.
Something has to be turned all the way off, maybe anti-aliasing.

For blazblue, I had to disable the antialiasing in the nvidia control panel.

About the D:/ drive, you can find on internet modified "game.exe" for each games, in order to have saves in the games folder (instead of d:/). It works for the games i tried.

does anyone else get a "no disc" error window when running Blazblue?  Nothing else does it, including Continuum Shift, tho if I skip it the game launches anyway.

Also I'm pulling my hair out trying to make video snapshots for this stuff.  Does anyone know a video tool/plugin that doesn't just throw it's hands up at youtube rips, since i'm not really able to record these.

you may have not used the loader if it came with one to start it up.   I have king of fighters xiii and if i start it up with game.exe i get the same message, but if i use the typex_loader.exe it works fine.  Hope this helps

I'm still having trouble with blaze blue, but then again I have an ati card and you can't completely turn off AA with them (just reduce it to 2x).

If anyone's interested in starting a troubleshooting thread, here are the issues I've ran into.

Raiden III .... crashes if I rotate the display
Raiden IV..... sometimes the game hangs on startup and I have to re-do the settings to get it running again. Also crashes if I rotate the display.

SF IV....  The game hangs on the intro video.  My guess is it would hang on the victory videos as well, so forget about playing that one until I can fix the issue.

Blaz Blu....  Half of the graphics are missing, including the player sprites!!

Battle Fantasia... Even though it's a "widescreen" game, it insists on setting the resolution to 1280x1024 on my monitor, making it stuck in 4:3 letterbox.

Giga Wing.... Screen will rotate if I use hardware rotation prior to launching, but the aspect is wrong.  Luckily this game creates an actual window, so we should be able to fix this!

Homura...  Crashes if you rotate the screen.

KOF Xii.... game.exe is a red herring.....  actual exe is in the TypeXSys folder and thus your launcher and your bat has to be in there.  Just make a shortcut to the bat and put it in the root folder.

Matrimalee....  Game runs fine, but intro video doesn't play... I get treated to a blank screen.

Shikigami.... Again, can't rotate the display.

Well if you look at my list the only REAL issues are with blazblu and sfiv.

Can you guys do me a favor?  I'm going to go ahead and write a better config exe but I need a little more info.

Open up your log file and post the first few lines of the keycode table it prints out.

Mine is like this:

   00000001 00000104 00000000 Esc
   00000002 00000204 00000000 1
   00000003 00000304 00000000 2

   00000005 00000504 00000000 4

The numbers in the first column (which might differ on your system) are the low-level scancodes, the next one, which the loader actually uses, has a "04" tacked on for some reason.  I don't have a clue if the "04" is universal or what it means.  Other than that I've figured out the format and should be able to create bin files for use with the loader.

Out of all the cool new games the one I'm actually excited for is tetris grand master 3 finally being emulated. this new bunch of games plus the new effects in mame are really helping me lean towards a scratch build cab with an lcd.

They aren't emulated, they are pc games.  Because I'm waaay more curious than the should be I poked around at what the typex_loader.exe does.  Basically it does a keyboard hook and that's about it. The original hardware had some sort of custom i/o device and all the loader does is fake that.

I've looked around forums (mostly foreign language forums... ugh) and people with ati cards are having similar issues to the ones the described.  Unfortuantely, because these are pc games, the only solution might be to use a different video card.

Then again if you look at the system specs for the taito x/x2 system they are sort of crappy pcs, so any video card swapout wouldn't cost that much.

I was reading that some titles have dependencies:

visual c runtime 2005/2008/2010 (x86 and x64 if running 64bit OS)
.net 3.5
DX 9

not sure if any external codecs are required for SFIV videos, can't get them to play on 2 different systems

xp 32,c2d,2gb,8800gtx

7 x64,i7,4gb,5870

I need to make sure the x86 runtimes are updated on my system.  As for the sfiv videos some forums say that forcing vsync on fixes the issue.  It doesn't for me though.

Well there is a big difference, if the games where emulated then it would be a trivial change to rotate vertical games, know what codecs and libraries are required, add more input options, define hardware requirements etc..

As the games are hacks, some of these issues may never be fully resolved.

I realize there is a difference it's just that wasn't the point I was trying to make. The only point I was trying to make is that there was no playable version of tgm3 for me and now there is and I'm happy about it. It plays and its fun don't care what its called.

Wow.. This is awesome news!

I can't launch games from GameEx however...

Has anybody had any similar problems? Anyone got any advice from the top of their head or anything?

I've changed many of the settings within GameEx & they work fine when not launched from the frontend, but I'm just getting a black screen and then sent back to GameEx. When this happens also, the games are not running in the background or anything...

Edit: Four hours and hundreds of ---smurfing--- ---daisies--- later... it is now working! Hooray!

I'm not nitpicking.  I'm correcting bad information from the start before it gets passed around enough times that people think it's the truth.  I've been around these forums a long time, all it takes is for one person to innocently spout off some incorrect information and another person to believe it and 6 months later 50% of the board thinks it's a fact.

Also read what jimmy said.  The reason I wanted to make the distinction is the fact that these issues some of us are having might not be fixable.

Why, oh why!!!?  :banghead:

Before the stress I went through a while ago, I tested two of the games - Chaos Breaker & Street Fighter 4.

SF 4 ran much too slow, however the former was perfect. I assumed that a decent number of titles will play fine though - assumed.

Damn, pc played all but two other games like crap & all the games that worked, are games which I have no interest in!

I even played (In matrix style) the gem that is Battle Fantasia for the first time, and I thought it was awesome and I'm so gutted that it can't go in my cab!

Damn stress, all for nothing...  :badmood:

Edit: By the way, I meant to say that the games either played like crap or were displayed in the wrong orientation - but the vertical shooting games not working was not a big deal for me and so I couldn't be bothered to get them to display correctly, whilst not messing anything else up.

Ok guys, I found some work-arounds.  It takes a ton of hackery, but it is possible to rotate the vertical games!

1.  Google for a program called DXWnd.  This program wraps direct-x applications and forces them into windowed mode.
2.  Download iRotate, even if your video card supports rotation, irotate will make it easy to rotate the screen via a batch file.
3.  Make a ahk script that will move your game window, remove the border and setup a backdrop.  (It's a bit complicated, I'll post something tomorrow.)
4.  Fire up DXWnd.  Add all of your game.exe's via the add button in the menu.  Be sure to select DX9.  Do NOT use the execute function as we need the exe's loaded via the typex loader and DXWnd will automatically hook exes as they are launched.

5.  Make a batch file that looks something like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------
CD "C:\Taito Arcade\DXWnd\dxwnd.exe"
timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul
CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\iRotate\"
iRotate.exe /rotate=90
timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul

 CD "C:\Taito Arcade\Raiden 3 - TX1\"
 typex_loader game.exe

timeout /T 1 /NOBREAK>nul

cD "c:\Taito Arcade\Raiden 3 = TX1\"
MoveWindow.ahk

 Pause
 CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\iRotate\"
iRotate.exe /rotate=0
 exit
-------------------------------------------------

Basically what the batch file is doing is:

1.  Load dxwnd
2.  Wait a sec
3.  Launch irotate to rotate the screen 90 degrees.
4.  Wait a sec
5.  Run the game
6.  wait a sec
7.  Run your ahk script that makes it look nice.
8.  Rotate the screen back once you are done.

I'll write a ahk script or something tomorrow that does this better, but for now, yes you can rotate the screen!
