Sorry to start off my tenure here with a nagging question, but I'm out of ideas. I have an arcade monitor scrolling issue. I know I'm not the first or last. I've spent 5 hours today researching this to no avail. Here is my situation.
ArcadeVGA card -> Jpac -> Wells 25" K7000 series (k7131). Screen will not stop rolling/scrolling from top to bottom and vice versa. I can mess with the Vertical Hold pot on the back of the monitor, and with enough fine tuning, I can get it stable, but any slight fluctuations of color/brightness on the screen will throw the hold one way or another. Running mame makes it slide up and down as the game's background changes. I can get a pretty clear picture, color is good, black text on white is fuzzy but readable. One black line near the top but it's nothing I can't live with. Just won't sit still.
Now that I've spent all day researching this, I've found several posts here with similar problems, none with fixes that work for me, such as...
-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNsSNejXF9k A youtube video of what it looks like. His scrolling is more constant regardless of what's on the screen, and he finds his problem was a video breakout cable, which, using a Jpac, I don't have.
-http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=101088.0 Same problem here, his question was never answered, at least not in his thread.
-http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=24580.0 This guy has a similar setup, ArcadeVGA to Jpac with a vertical rolling problem. Says he solved it by bridging pins 13 and 14 on the VGA connector. Tried it, no luck, no difference.
-http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=91250.0 K7200, but same issue. He replaced all the caps and still. Never solved.
The worst part is, it supposedly didn't have this problem several weeks ago, before it was moved from a friend's house to mine, but I can't think of what would cause this problem after being shaken. I'm open to any suggestions, but here's what's been done/considered and what seems off to me.
-Neither of the sync LEDs on the Jpac is lit up. The only thing I've found that mentions it is in the official faq where it says that's because it's not getting power. It is.
-V and H sync are combined. I''ve tried separating one or both, no luck.
-I've messed with every pot on the back, reducing the brightness/color/contrast/50-60hz in any way doesn't help settle the rolling.
-2 different PS2 cables means the Jpac is getting power but...
-The ArcadeVGA card is putting out at 15hz, since the monitor can display it, but the display properties still say 60hz. I can't reduce the setting, even after installing the ArcadeVGA drivers.
-The ArcadeVGA drivers didn't really seem to do much. I've tried reinstalling several times, but everything is installing just fine, what differences should I be noticing? I'm not getting more hz or resolution options, and the ATI catalyst suite included doesn't have an option to force composite sync like newer software does. Not sure if this would matter.
I'd download a new set of drivers incase there was something wrong with mine, but the Downloads section of the Jpac site just says "There are not yet any updated drivers for this card. Use the files on the Ultimarc CD"m which seems silly, because that's a seldom used CD and an easy one to lose. Nevertheless I don't think it's a driver problem.
So, anyone got any ideas? Should I tear all the wiring out and try again? Replace the caps even though it hasn't helped others? Toss the monitor in the garbage and buy a new one? I'm not above sexual favors for anyone who can help.
