Got the WG9000 LCD today
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:59:40 pm »
Recived the WG 9000 LCD today, so far I'm very impressed, I'm working with Calamity to post a full review I took some vacation time so I would have plenty of time to mess with it, I just hope we are able to make it do what we want otherwise it is going to be a very expensive wall decoration. So far i've only tested it though VGA as I have to extend my Jamma video harness to connect it though that for real PCB testing but I have high hopes of success. For the time being here's some preview shot's look for a full review in the review section in the next day or two.

That last shot looks like one hell of a pitched tent! Nice looking monitor BTW.

That last shot looks like some DOS game, to my eyes it looks terrible. Anyway, does it take both 31kHz and 15kHz through that VGA connector or is there separate RGB input for arcade PCBs? What PCBs are you going to try, any old classics? -- Good luck with it in any case, and I'm looking forward to read the review.

By the way, why the guy in that screenshot has three legs? Is that some motion compensation blending effect from LCD, visual glitch due to camera long exposure, or maybe that's a part of the game, some kind of "dick-kick"?

Is it 16:10 or 16:9?
Can you figure out if it is an LG IPS panel or a TN one?
Why does it have a FAN? Is there a 200 watt 1000cd/m2 backlight in there?

I'll be working on the writeup for the review today and should have it up by this afternoon/night, unfortantly it will only accept 31khz through vga, but that does not effect it in the slightest, it also has a stand WG jamma RGB connecter so you can connect any jamma game up to it, and if you do it behaves exactly like a standard res crt "i will go into more depth about this in the review".

And the funky picture is because of my camera, the game actually looks GREAT on the lcd.

without spoiling my review to much, the panel i got is a LG panel, however in the extended warranty information i got, he does state that they can and do substitute parts so i could be a lottery, the panel is 16:9, according to official specs it's only 500cd/m2 but let me tell you this thing is BRIGHT and does put out quite abit of heat, when i mount it i will likely add an fan on the other side to pull air through "there is a built in mounting area"

That is curious.
- Either it is a LG TN screen
- or it is 16:10 wrongly specced as 16:9 (please measure exact image size for me....) IPS. The only IPS panels made larger than 24 inch and smaller than 30 inch are the 1200x1920 25.5 inch and the 2560x1440 27 inch.
- or it is a 1366x768 TV type of screen, and not a computer monitor panel.

500 cd/m2 is great. Hope you can turn it down to 100 or lower as well :). This would also be a reason for either a TV panel or the 16:10 IPS panel, as these two are often equiped with 400-500cd/m2 backlights.

Im going to be taking what casing it has apart to get pics of the inside for the review ill see if I can find a part #.  I was "told" it was a LG panel by WG when I called about warranty information, the person I talked could be mis-informed.
