Makvision M2929DIG-62 Monitor resolution?
« on: June 12, 2011, 04:21:35 pm »
Don't have a manual and for some reason, I'm having a hard time finding the actual specs for this monitor, as I keep finding conflicting info, in the very few locations I can actually find.

Anyway, I thought this was a 1024 x 768 max res monitor, but like another post I found on here, from a little over a year ago, if I try and switch to 1024 x 768, I'm outta range.  I'm using WinXP Pro, have a NVIDIA GEForce 7300 SE video card and, like the previous advice given in the other post, have made sure I'm set at a refresh rate of 60hz.

Anyone know this monitor's specs or have a thought about using it at the higher resolution, if it is, in fact, supposed to be able to handle 1024 x 768?

There seem to be 3 models of the digital Makvisions floating around:

#1 is the low resolution monitor.  It'll do 15-31kHz (so standard res, medium res, and VGA aka 640x480p)
#2 is the high resolution monitor.  It does 31-38kHz (so VGA 640x480p and SVGA 800x600p)
#3 is the extended resolution monitor.  It does 31-48kHz (so VGA, SVGA and XGA aka 1024x768p)

You probably have #2.  Where did you get it from?

Mind you, 1024x768 on the coarser dot pitch tubes used in arcade monitors (even fairly high res ones) won't look much better than 800x600.  You'll be able to cram more pixels onto the screen, but each pixel will be blurrier.

Not sure where the monitor really came from, as it was part of a full unit I bought from Dream Authentics years ago.  Could have sworn it was advertised as being 1024 x 768, but it wouldn't surprise me if they lied or switched id stickers on the thing.  I've had to change a bunch of stupid things they did after I got the thing.  :P

Was mostly interested in the higher resolution for vector games (and maybe visual pinball/future pinball), but hey, it might not make that much of a difference anyway.  ;)

I've got a 2929D that maxes out at 800x600 and vector games look great on it. The extra resolution probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

Well, that's good to know.  I guess I just need to optimize the settings to make vector games look as good as possible.
