Need help with ZVG support in mame32!
« on: June 11, 2011, 02:05:21 pm »
So Zektor starting making zvg cards again but mame has not "caught up". There is a windows beta version of command line mame .137 that supports the zvg but other than that, you have to go all the way back to dosmame .106! I have no programming skills to install zvg/inpout32 support.
I really need help here, I hope someone can help.
The windows beta is here"http://www.radiantbacon.com/" I do not have access to the code for this particular version, only the same download linked here.
The big problem is that for some reason the GAME LIST is incomplete and does not include any Sega vector games. Can someone expand the game list somehow so additional vector games will show in the game list and be functional?
The games that need to be added are: Space Fury, Star Trek, Zektor, Tac Scan, Eliminator, Topgunner, Tomcat and the Tempest multigame (tempestm.zip)
Anyone?
BTW: I have tried contacting the author of the beta (SteveJ) but he cannot reply and is too busy with other things right now.
Klov threads basically restate what I have said here, there is no additional news/support available right now. I feel that others need to get involved to keep this project moving in the right direction.

....and here is where your request for help dies.  If others don't share their work, how is anybody else expect to build progress upon it?  That's why the MAME license states you must make available the sources for any modifications you make alongside your binary.

Beyond that, it's the type of thing that nobody without the actual hardware can easily develop (especially given the lack of code).  You'll probably find the number of active devs with the hardware somewhere around the 0 mark, and that's if I'm being optimistic.

I'm not trying to be funny, but it appears this comes down to 2 things.
a) you reap what you sow..  (no source, no possible future versions)
b) MAME is dead. (no proper active developers to pick things up)

Thanks for a reply! Any reply! What you say here may help the situation. Eventually, SteveJ will get your message and hopefully he will post the code.
But here's the rub...zvg support WAS in dosmame .72-.106. Then it was removed for some reason. My personal issue is that I have no idea what I'm doing with Dos and a 100% working zvg setup can only be done in dos right now.
Maybe I will have to find someone that can install and setup a dos system for me....
