Wei-Ya chassis and 25" tube problems..screen black
« on: June 04, 2011, 01:54:44 pm »
I have a 25" TV I converted to an arcade monitor and the intial set-up the monitor powered up great

Problem with that was I had the wrong chassis, it was for a 27" tube and the picture went outside of the monitor area and couldn't bring it in. So I sold that chassis on eBay and bought the correct one for a 25" tube (825HR)…this is brand new

I put the chassis in today and hooked everything up exactly the way I had it except for a few changes (more later) and it won't power up now. The screen is black. I am also using a transformer between the chassis power and wall outlet so that is correct.

Here's what I am getting: (keep in mind I don't know the terminology)

1. Something making a noise when plugged in..Kind of a high pitched noise

2. Very faint power in the tube near the neckboard connector, lights up dim when plugged in

3. Lots of static on the front of the screen

4.  Anode has lots of spark, I noticed this when discharging it

Here’s what has changed between the chassis that worked and the one that doesn’t right now. I installed these at same time of the new chassis.
1.   Took out the AGP arcadevga card and installed a PCI-E arcadvga card

2.   Installed a  ultimarc video amplifer  http://www.ultimarc.com/vidamp.html

Do you think the video card or the video amplifier could have fried my chassis in some way?  I have the driver installed on the card and have the dvi going to a computer monitor and the video amplifier going to the vga port on the card. Maybe some settings on the card?
Where do I start on trying to troubleshoot or repair the issues?
Thanks for the help…I wished the first chassis was correct…it worked fine.

1:) yep, they do that sometimes. it's the sound of the electromagnetic field used to deflect the beam to make the picture.
2:) yep, supposed to, it's the heater for the color guns.
3:) make sure you ground the metal frame of the monitor and tube... it will get rid of a lot of that static.
4:) some do, some don't. don't worry about it. discharging is proper to do before removing the anode incase of a build up of charge in the glass of the tube.

sometimes they are reversed... they are labeled. You will have to check to be sure.

just power it on and turn it up a little... very little, like 1/16th of a turn might be too much. see if the screen gets gray... if not, try a bit more. if turning it way up still shows a black screen, something is wrong.

hey turning the screen adjustment worked!  I feel better now.  :applaud:

I have a picture  :)

I'm still trying to "fine tune" the picture and I amd stumped on one more thing. The picture is curled at the top and bottom..flowing against the natural curve of the tube. I've tried all the adjustments I have on the little adjustment pad that came attached to the chassis. But nothing seems to either "bring in" the middle or "bring out" the top and bottom to follow the curve of the screen.

VR1 "Pincushion" adjustment pot is what you want to adjust. I don't know if they put that on the remote board or if it's on the main chassis board.

Ya, I'm not sure either... I've seen about 10 wei-ya chassis and they where all different. They don't leave anything alone.

On mine it is on the main chassis board
