Got a WG D9800 and many questions! :)
« on: June 03, 2011, 10:06:14 pm »
I need some help with my D9800. Got that monitor 2 years ago, but I haven't played much with it.  ::)

To understand how my monitor works, I took some time yesterday to read all this: http://easymamecab.mameworld.info/html/monitor1.htm
Sure, I'm probably more confused than before, but from what I understand, I'm far from using it to is real potential.  :dizzy:

I have so many question that I will split them in sections.  :applaud:

Various frequencies;

The monitor can run into 4 different modes if I'm right (15,25,31,38khz).

(A) Why is there 5 mode listed in the WG documentation?
(B) Mode 3 and 4 seems the same except the vertical refresh rate no?
(C) What is the main difference?

Remote control adjustment board and saved configs;

So I installed Softh15khz with an ATI 4850 on XP32. It seems that I can adjust each resolution with the remote control, but many won't fit really well. I have to adjust the image each time. I'm pretty sure that some are independent, and some really close ones are linked together (ex; 320x240 & 304x240).

(D) Is there a "main" resolution for each frequencies or is there many?
(E) What are they?
(F) How many different "preset" the monitor can memorize?

Resolution higher than 800x600;

There is a few indie games that don't work really well under 1024x768, and I would like to add them to my cabinet. I took the WG specs and generated a modeline here: http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl

Code: [Select]
Modeline "1024x768@60i" 29.01 1024 1056 1160 1192 768 785 789 807 interlace -hsync -vsync
(G) If I'm right, this will produce 1024x768@60 interlated at 25khz right?

The generator say that the modeline wont exceed my monitor specs.

(H) Could this modeline damage my monitor?
(I) How bad it will flicker since it's an interlaced mode?

I also find this modeline created by SailorSat while browsing the forum;

Code: [Select]
modeline '1024x768@59,959i' 29,49 1024 1040 1136 1200 768 776 782 820 interlace -hsync -vsync
There is some little differences, but overall they are close.

(J) In what this mod is different from the one generated on the X86 modeline generator site?
(K) Is this modeline better in any way? Less flicker maybe?
(L) Is there any better(s) modeline in 15/31/38khz to get 1024x768?

Enough for now!  ;D

just install groovymame live cd and enjoy your monitor to the max!

it already has a preset for wg d9800 so works beautifully straight out of the box...
