Artwork for my bartop cabinet - Comments?
« on: May 31, 2011, 02:59:55 pm »
So my first build is moving along nicely.

I've started working on marquee art ideas. Here is my space invaders inspired first draft.

And here is my initial CP design

Any suggestions or comments?

Nice retro style - I would carry the black blue plain into the marquee (but reversed) so the thiner blue lines start at the bottom of the marquee and work up to thick blue lines at the top.
My art is always free for you to download and modify as you see fit...
Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

I actually like the MAME logo there. It looks like an authentic trademark.

Agreed.  I really like the CP.

I like it... it looks very clean.  I wonder about printing the instructions on the CP.  I know the arcade machines did it, but if you change your front end, or have it operate differently, then these instructions might become outdated.  Just my thought.

I thought about that, but the instructions on there are very basic and solid. The only change may be the coin-start combo to exit, but I will confirm that after I wire up a test panel.

Now that my marquee and control panel are finalized (they are at the printers now) I'm starting to work on side art ideas.

Here is my initial design...

Like the CPO. Love the side art. Not a fan of the marquee.

I don't know if mine are retro looking enough compared to yours. Anyway, I was just messin' around in Xara...

Yours reminds me of 80's cartoonish font styling/coloring/layering. Mine looks a little too plastic-y, even for the 80's.

I modeled the look of my marquee text after the Space Invaders marquee, with a different retro font obviously.
