Two questions, startup question and Mamewah question
« on: August 28, 2003, 11:05:38 am »
1)  What is the windows file that I have to modify to make a program start when windows boots, or how to I accomplish this task easily and safely?

2)  In mameWah, is there a way to hide or remove the ability to exit to windows?  I always want it to shut down on exit, if possible.

Thanks

Krynos

I don't know how to modify the shut down menu on mamewah, but as for getting it to automatically start on booting, just copy the mamewah startmenu item into "start up". Thats what I did, works great. Mamewah loads so fast you never see the desktop.

From cold (fully off) to mamewah being active on my cab is 25 seconds, and I'm pretty happy with that :)

I set my system up so that from a menu at the start you can select Mame wah (Windows) or a few other things (Scandisk, arcadeos).

I made is so when you select mamewah, a batch files runs that deletes my system.ini and replaces it with a modded systems.ini that has mamewah listed as the shell instead of explorer.

If you want to select straight windows, a batch file is ran that deletes the last system.ini file and replaces it with a new system.ini that has explorer listed as the shell.

I can post my config if anyone is interested?

Steve

Oh yeah, by the way I'm using Windows 98 for dos and windows versions of mame.

Just realized that I have to get a few missed config files from my computer, unfortunately I'm at work right now, but I'll try to post it by tomorrow.

2)  In mameWah, is there a way to hide or remove the ability to exit to windows?  I always want it to shut down on exit, if possible.

Go into 'Misc Options' and look for 'Default Exit Action'.  You can set this so that it always exits/shuts down/reboots etc...

If the option is not there in v0.955b, then it might be in my WIP version (ready for next release).  I just can't remember right now  ::)

Hey Hoagie,

Here you go!  Change the file from myconfig.txt to myconfig.zip,  I wasn't sure if it would post as a zip or not since I have no way of hosting the file?

The only files I didn't include in this are my modded system.ini files,  you should be able to change yours to work though.  Also, remember to make a back up copy of your system.ini file before modding it.

I basically made two directories in my mamewah directory one that contained an orignal System.ini file in a directory called windows and another that contained the modded system.ini, which I called mamewah.   You just want to modify your shell in the system.ini file and change it from explorer to mamewah.   I've included a few other things in the zip, such as my autoexec.bat, config.sys, advmame.rc etc etc and also my two shutdown programs.  Let me know if you have any questions?
