Best TV/monitor for a Cocktail arcade?
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:00:48 am »
Can someone recommend the best type of monitor or TV to use for a cocktail arcade. I originally bought a 27 widescreen TV on CL but I guess it's too old because when I face the screen up there's pinkish discoloration on the top of the screen.

Trying to keep it under budget so a new TV/monitor would not be ideal. Any help would be appreciated.

If the 27 widescreen TV is a CRT, then the pinkish discoloration probably can be removed by degaussing the screen.

I googled "degaussing the screen" and got a couple of good hits. I will definitely try this when I get home tonight. Hopefully it works, since finding a good size TV/monitor is not easy.

(I didn't know this could be done to a TV.)

Any kind of electromagnetic fields will do that.
A proper degauss wire around the tube usually takes care of bad colours and other "noise".

Often it is easy to get rid of - I keep an old speaker magnet close by, which can be used by moving it close to the tube. Note that it can also make it worse, so be careful :)

Thanks for the help guys, I ordered a degaussing stick from Paradise arcade shop and it cleared it right up. Will be working on a frame for this beast before I start a project announcement thread.
