Windows 7 and Shock sensor on Fujitsu 5112
« on: April 10, 2011, 10:18:29 pm »
Found a nice Fujitsu 5112 on ebay. Upgraded to win 7 and all is well but in so doing I seem to have lost the shock sensor. Tried upgrading the driver but was told it was not needed.

Question: does Windows 7 have a built in hard drive shock sensor?

To the best of knowledge that's usually an autonomous function of the hard drive itself.. parking the heads when it detects free-fall. Was there some kind of program previous to the update that you're expecting to see?

It came loaded with a shock sensor via Fujitsu  that went "missing" (I thought) on update so I looked for a Win 7 driver for same on their support site. No luck, but I had read where latest Vista driver often still work in Win 7. Tried that and that's when I got message I didn't need to update but don't see old program anywhere either!

Most shock sensors do not need the PC to work.  They are built into the hard drive itself.  However there are programs (drivers) that allow different settings for the hard drive.   eg the sensitivity of the shock sensor can be adjusted.

maybe you install the original fujitsu xp program and then run it in XP compatability mode.

i concur. I would think the program is just for settings and whatnot.

Sets my mind at ease.  I have the programs on the slate that adjusts the sensitivity now, but I haven't had a chance to install them yet and see what that does in Windows 7.

Once again, as setting sensitivity is all it does, I ain't gonna sweat it.  I like Windows 7 FAR better for this slate than Win XP....and everything else on the slate (buttons, etc -well, except bluetooth but I have driver and never used it in the first place) is working fine; so I intend to leave it just as it is.

Thanks again!
