Null DC + Selfboot Games
« on: April 10, 2011, 03:27:20 pm »
Working on my latest project I have had nothing but bad luck with Chankast.
I can't get it to work so I have moved onto Null DC. However this cabinet is a dual light gun cabinet featuring two Aim Trak guns. Does Null DC support light guns ?

** Since the Aim Trak guns work as your typical PC mouse would I should have no issue with Light Gun games ! **

Also anyone have any thoughts on Null DC vs. Chankast ?

As mentioned above I had major issues with Chankast.
I did my install by following Uncle T's awesome MaLa guide.
Installed everything in the folders, assigned the same drive letter, only difference is I had (have) Daemon Tools Lite.
None the less, I cant get Chankast to work.
I have tried with ISO files, ZIP, and even CDI.

I've moved onto NullDC.
I obtained a few ROM files that are CDI files and confirmed they are selfbooting.
However I get stuck on this screen with each of the three games I tested.
Any help ? What am I doing wrong ?

That's the dreamcast screen when no game is loaded, only it looks like it didn't even load all the way.
My guess would be the BIOS.

It's been a while since I set up my NullDC.
I don't recall what the options look like, but you may need to change the bios or find the right one if you don't have it.
(I'm running NullDC for dreamcast, Demul for Atomiswave, & Makaron for Naomi  :lol  )

Thanks again Bad Mouth.
I thought I had all the BIOS files, but perhaps I overlooked something.
Getting this Dreamcast emulator working has proven to be a B**CH!
I'll give that a try tomorrow. Can I use several BIOS files for different regions ?

I'm pretty sure I have all the right bios files, and even did the re-name.
I unzipped and re-installed the NullDC folder contents again, just to make sure.
(As that technique worked with M2)
I still have the same issue, not sure if it's a RAM issue, I have 512 MB.
Possibly a videocard issue ? I went to change it, but I need a PCI card which I don't have.
I've placed a bid for one on eBay.
I'll snap a pic of my NullDC folder including the DATA folder, perhaps I've missed something.

MAN............setting up this new multi console + MAME PC has proven to be a challenge.
But it will be well worth it !

This is my project : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=109853.0

If the bios is there, my next guess would be that you selected the wrong plug-ins during setup (or didn't select any).
Search youtube for nulldc setup and follow along.  There are tutorials for just about any emulator on there.

NullDC boots to the bios screen when the image you've selected is invalid.  It's your isos man.

I pressed EVERY key @ that screen (pictured above) I don't know what "V" did.....but it did something!
Now I get past that screen and the games start to boot. Think I might have a ROM or RAM issue to resolve still.
I'll try other images.

I got some new images (CDI) and they seem to work better.
But the system still stalls. I think it could be a RAM or graphics issue.
I'm going to get more RAM and a new video card shortly.
Hope that helps
