ok need help vectorinzing a pic lol

ok im almost finished with my brother control panel ...he wants this picture for the cp artwork

now its only 800 k and you need it to get vectorized right??(to be 14 inch high X 32 inch large)
I dont have the time (i made the cp at work , i got 1 11 years old girl 1 1year and a half son and a pregnant wife again lol) to learn/do it after learning/probably wont have the patience  how to vectorize picture !!! So i said to my self lets check out on the web if some site will do it for you $$$$

1- is it true that you cannot vectorize this picture , well you can but it wont look good?
2- anybody on this site do some vector for $$$ or know a website that does? or some picture are impossible to do at all???

Yeah... that image looks like it was rendered with a 3D app.  You can reproduce that sort of thing, but it is NOT a trivial undertaking.

Picking up some skills in an application like Photoshop or Illustrator and rolling your own is not the same as producing this sort of thing.

It's a bummer cause you can do some really neat things with 3D apps.

I have professional experience with 3D modeling and rendering and I've decided to do all the art for my cab in raster and vector just because 3D would be way too time consuming.

Your first problem is that the image is 4:3 ratio. a 32x14 is 4:1.75 so the image is two tall and will be cropped significantly if you force it to 32x14.

As far as the enlargement goes you have a couple options:

Blow it up to at least twice the size you need (both in dimensions and dpi), posterize it and then reduce it to the size you need. Or, use a program like vector magic to create a vector image:

I love the look of something that has been vectorized with vector magic.  It's not perfect but still looks very cool.

Honestly these kind of threads drive me insane   Asking someone to do work for them. When they have no idea, what the difference is between raster and vector  

You guys really need to learn the difference as most of the time it's apparent. Give you a hint, look at this logo I vectored this is what is possible with vector graphics simple basic designs.

In all fairness... He made it clear he didn't completely understand the graphical requirements.  Also, I didn't think he was asking for a freebie .

BTW  I like your logo.  I like how clean and crisp vector art can look.  Right now I'm working on my cabinet art, and it is going to be a combination of vector and raster.

Here is an example of just how detailed you can get with vector only.  But this type of work is reserved for the truly gifted.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as harsh as I did but, I simply get sick of people requesting vector work when they have no idea what it is. Then people humor them with ya that's possible use this automatic vector program it works it really works. As for the fine art vector work it is truly amazing. I have messed with doing that kind of work myself since it is made up of gradient mashes unfortunately they are a real pain to work with. the upside to gradient mash work is it's the future of vector graphics i'm looking forward to adobes' next illustrator I hope they focus on making it easier to work with them. and BTW I'm glad you liked my work I enjoy doing it.

For those of us who are not well-versed in automatic vectoring programs (i.e. Vector Magic, etc.), could you explain why this wouldn't work?  I only ask because my plan was to work up an image in Photoshop and then use Vector Magic to "vectorize" it for larger printing.

It really depends on how detailed the raster image is that you are trying to vectorize.  If you look at t3Design's post, you can see how the vectoring software interpreted the image.  A very detailed image is MUCH more difficult to vectorize, and you end up losing detail.

Solid colors vectorize pretty well.  If you have a lot of gradient colors like the image in the original post, then the vector software redefines the gradient as a range of solid colors.

Take a look at http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/vector_tracing.  Also, http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/raster_versus_vector_artwork.

If you're creating your art from scratch anyhow, try you hand at a vector drawing application, so you can skip the translation to final product.  I use Inkscape because I'm too cheap to shell out for Illustrator.

  Not to take this off on a tangent but....the bad thing about everything having an 'automated' solution is that there won't be anyone left to have a special or unique skill.  Know what I mean?
