Bullet Storm Demo
« on: April 03, 2011, 03:01:54 am »
I realize that it's just a demo, but I discovered Bullet Storm for the PS3 on the network. Short download later, I'm wasting a little time with the game.

What....the.... :censored:

This game is just awful. I realize this is just a demo but this game is just no fun.

First off, you have to equip the weapons before you can select them. OK... I get it, there's probably a limited number of weapons one can carry in RL, so apply that limitation to the game. OK fair enough.

But then... I still haven't quite figured out how to determine how many "special" mode ammo one carries. Is it that number over there? Or is it this marker over here? OK, whatever, it's a demo so the UI probably isn't as polished as it should be. Where's my health meter? Oh, is this it? No idea.  ???

Who are these ---smurfs--- following me around? Oh, they're my partners. OK. Do I have to protect them? No matter, it's a demo....

OK, so I'm just getting the hang of chasing a few baddies around until I run into a log... Where's my jump button? Oh wait... I can't jump. I can only "climb over".

OK. OK. I get it, this is a demo. But Jesus. I don't get it. You have a game where the whole goal is to find new and interesting way to slaughter people, even come out with this The Force + electricity == weird whip thing to grab people and drop what looks like the Wrath of God (until you run out of Wrath of God of course  ::) ) and you can't ---smurfing--- jump and you're restricted in your weapons (I can only assume that's the reason for equipping them). If I wanted realism, I'd pick up one of the multitudes of combat simulators out there. Hell, doesn't the U.S. Army still run their game program?

But a guy with this weird whip thing coming out of his hand destined to blow the nuts off some guy and shove them down someone elses throat is most certainly not realistic in any degree.

I thought I wanted to buy the game, I changed my mind on this one. It's just too damn droll and awkward.

Did anyone buy the game yet? Is it really as bad as the demo?

We are distancing ourselves from the game - after your review.

Maybe you should do a regular piece in BYOAC  for all the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- games out there.  :applaud:

Thought about renting it as opposed to the demo? Like you said, it is just the demo, maybe its been polished since thats been released. Even though renting it costs around 10 bucks, I would rather play 10 bucks and KNOW that it sucks after beating it, then downloading the demo for free and not knowing. That game seems like you would be able to beat it during the rental period, I havent heard anything about it being cool to play online with, so maybe thats a thought. I remember when I was a kid my mom would tell me to rent it first, and I was like "no way I want to buy it!!" but after spending 65 bucks on a game and having it suck, Im all about renting. And, if I dont want to play it while I have it rented, why would I want to play it after it got bought?!

I was bummed about the new Spiderman Dimensions game. I LOOOVE spiderman (my mame cab is spidey themed) but the new game just didnt grab my attention, and the web swinging was frustrating. I ran out and bought it, blew the 65 bucks, and wished I would have spent the 10 and rented it.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

The game is quite short with a few really stupid parts that I'd like to slap the designers for.  But overall I had a fun time stomping thru the game slapping dynamite onto enemies and kicking them across the screen to blow up their buddies.  Or controlling the huge robotic dinosaur that shot lasers at things.  Don't depend on your AI buddies to do anything right.....EVER.  And don't expect a story....but if you expected a story in a game that gives you points for shooting bullets up a guy's anus after you kick him away from you......well I don't know what to say then.   :dunno

It's not a $60 title.......not even close (but most aren't)......but I did have fun with it.

I got it, I liked it. I played through , I still need to go back through and beat the last level on hard and very hard for those 2 achievements.  I got it used, so no online for me. Its a great arcadey feeling game that doesn't take itself seriously. If you played it thinking Gears of War then yeah , you're going to be let down and expectantly so.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I was hoping this wasn't a case of a really well done commercial as it's one of the few that have really caught my eye recently.  Did it go a little too far on the wild side?

I played the demo too.. my bro and his friend were really excited about it so I thought I'd check it  out. Man you're right. The only that that distinguishes it is the whip thing. It gets really repetitive. Oh well.

Yeah, I thought about renting but nearly every rental store within a ten mile radius is out of business. Where there was once five rental stores within five miles of me, there might be one left. I'm not sure if they're still open or not. Apparently all have died from netflix and redbox. Oh well. I'll see if the last one is still in business or check Google Maps for another one.

To be honest. I do recognize that Demos don't always reflect the true game. Sounds stupid but when I got my first PC, I actually subscribed to a Demo-Disc service that mailed you a bunch of demos on CD. Those were the days before online. I purchased a few games based on the demos and the gameplay changes were often eye popping. The worst was when one demo had a really great gradual learning curve but the actual product was a little more than twice as hard and ran about 1/3 the speed. Hair pulling to say the least.

@malenko
I didn't download it thinking it would be like GoW. The game didn't bill itself as a GoW competitor (Did it and I missed it ?) so it never crossed my mind. It just struck me as really odd to have realistic mechanisms in a game where you're supposed to find creative ways to send the guys Lucky Charms into the stratosphere.

I might rent to make sure but the demo really doesn't give me a lot of incentive to do so.

To put things in a more concise way.

Demos are meant to get you to purchase the game. The Bullet Storm demo does not do that for me.

I used to go to flea markets just to buy shareware.
