Problem with Vertical Shake/Flicker
« on: August 25, 2003, 04:59:49 pm »
I installed a cap kit for my Wells-Gardner K4600 monitor this weekend and it has improved (vertical bending now).  However the monitor still has some occasional vertical shaking or flicker to it.  When the monitor is first turned on there is a lot of shaking, but it quiets down once the monitor has warmed up.

I had tried reflowing the solder on the neckboard and around different connectors where the signal comes in, but it hasn't helped (maybe I didn't get it good enough though).  Anyone have any other ideas?

I had exactly the same problem you decribe on my Time Pilot cab.

The K4600's have the 2 plug-in cards (interface & hor/vert) that are notorious for bad solder joints in both the main board header pins and the sockets on the cards.  Suck out the old solder and resolder all the pin & socket joints between the boards.

When removing the chassis, be very careful with the fragile horizontal width coil that sits off-board.

Good luck!

Thanks Oscar,  I'll have to give that a try.
