K7000 Cap kit now now no neck glow dead?
« on: March 22, 2011, 11:52:29 pm »
I have a k7000 25" monitor that was dim most of time and was in need of a cap kit. i finally got around to doing a cap kit on this chassis. Now i have the cap kit installed and verified all caps are correctly installed and reflowed all the existing solder joints because i know these k7000 are known for cracked solder joints. I installed the chassis back into the cabinet and attachd the anode cap. Now i have no neck glow and no picture at all. I doulbe checked all caps are correctly installled. What would you check next? If i cannot get this to work where can i send this chassis to have someone fix it for me? Thanks for any response!

Do you hear a quick burst of HV static when you first turn it on ?

Have you checked the B+ voltage ?
(it may be high and going into shutdown)

Even though you checked solder joints..... double check EVERY large resistor again. There are a couple spots that will crack the trace near the joint that will kill the heater voltage, hence no neck glow.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

If the tube filament is glowing then the horiz section is running fine.....the filament runs off the flyback.

Did you cut/remove any wires when you did the cap job? 'specially the gnd wire that ties to the neck board and the tube dag.

Yes i cut a gray wire that i assume is a ground, but i did connect it back when i put the chassis back in the cabinet. I just twised the wire strands together but that should be sufficient ? correct?

Make sure this wire is connected and making a GOOD connection:
