27" IPS monitor for $300 new.... great deal?
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:27:43 pm »
So I just started my search for a 27" monitor for my TMNT cab and went to costco. I tilted all the monitors and, of course, they looked terrible from the sides. Then I tilted this Vizio TV/monitor and it looked perfect so it must be an IPS. Is this the best deal I am going to find for something like this? Thanks,

lilshawn

that's not bad, i bought a same sized computer monitor for 350, so 300 is pretty good.

some of the visio stuff is really good and others bad.

do a google on the model # and see if there is any reviews about it.

The reviews are pretty good. Only bad thing is the sound but I won't be using that.

I've been looking at this one for my first cabinet. It's supposed to have a 178 degree viewing angle according to the Vizio website. I am considering building a control panel for four people so I can have people over to play Gauntlet, so viewing angle is important to me.

This one definitely has perfect viewing angles. I am still waiting on purchase until costco puts it on sale again. I barely missed the coupon to where it made it $280. I have a TN monitor in the cab now and it will be satisfactory for the long run for me.

It's probably a tn most new TNs have good viewing angles side to side, it's up and down where they suck.

The viewing angle described is supposedly for vertical or horizontal, but I'm not sold on it yet.

No need for it to be IPS. MVA or PVA is also good on the angles, but much slower in lag.
Just e-mail them and ask for panel type. 178/178 is supposed to be partnered with the contrast ratio. This should be 1:10 at least. I've seen suppliers mentioning 178/178 at 1:2 contrast!
If you want to be sure it's IPS, pretty fast and good: try the Dell U2711 and the Fujitsu P27T-6 IPS.

What about this model?

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M260VA-26-Inch-Class-RazorLED/dp/B003LL17HK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1302885072&sr=8-1

Seems similar to the model you originally posted but should be cheaper.

Watch out if the TV offers true 1366x768 1:1 pixel mapping. I never understood the stupid resolution. 720p is slightly upscaled and thus fuzzy, and 1080p is too much for these TV's. If you can drive it 1366x768 with a PC, then it is OK for emulation. But 1200 pixels vertical is much better, as there is less difference in height of lines from top to bottom. 4 or 5 pixel high lines differ less than 2 or 3 pixel high lines.
