  Hi,
I am running the Linux version,It works great, but sometimes,(once while adding cover art, once while playing songs)it just disappears,no error or message.I tried looking for a crash log,but I don't know where it,or the program is stored.also I think it is .082,but there is no info box to check.
Maybe next rev put it on the splash screen,or an "about"box in the configuration screen.
Thanks,
Scott

 Hi,
Reinstalled to.082(Ubuntu).I did not reboot,so I don't if it was related, but while adding album art,the program disappeared at the moment I pressed cancel for adding a track,it saved the art. After I rebooted I found the help doesn't display anything but a white box.
Play random track is always selected at startup.the other options in that box save their settings, the program always plays it's last song at startup even when completed. After a while,(less than an hour)random play, program disappears.
Thanks,
Scott

 Hi,
I've had more time to play, Xp mediacenter,.082 if the tracklist is invalid,it will crash the program any time you try to open that menu. I've been fixing my music directories etc.. and caused many crashes.would it be dificult to parse the list at startup? & delete invalid entries?

i used media monkey and done them artist/album/track , hint though dont use track numbers as skjuke numbers them anyway and im having problems in that area , i really dont want to retag all my albums again but i will eventully , the problem with the track numbers is that the search feature doesnt work properly

if you need any help with media monkey let me know as it can be a little tricky to start

 Hi Ecosbar,
I haven't begun to use anything automated, yet. I've used track #s to figure out which songs are missing from a CD, when running the juke, it shows  double digits when I am missing a song. I only have 400 CDs ripped at the moment. This is the first time in years I've organized my music.Working with the juke has made it easy to spot problems with my collection.
Thanks,
Scott

  Hi s_Rob,
The problem seems to have something to do with screen resolution,on my Linux netbook the edge of the tracklist and the now playing boxes are cut off a bit,on my xp machine only the very edge of the tracklist is cut off (a little bit of the first letter)is missing. On my Linux desktop both boxes display properly, but there are glitches displaying the title of the now playing song (I think only while playing random when idle)only the time displays without the title.also 2 songs display in the tracklist, but do show in the edit tracklist box.small things, all in good time.
Thanks,
Scott

Hey guys. Just a quick post to reassure you I'm still here and paying attention. Been insanely busy, as well as sick as a dog the last couple weeks, but feeling better and will have some time this weekend to look at some of the issues that have been posted. Fortunately, they all seem to be fairly minor, that's a relief. it means that the major kinks have been mostly ironed out. That means I can do two things. One, look at major new features for the jukebox, and Two, start work on my next project, either the SKG GameBox or the SKG VideoBox.

Some of you have asked about themes or skinning. I would like to implement something along those lines. What parts of the UI would you like the ability to modify? This juke will never be as skinnable as WinAmp, but I should be able to do something. Also, how do you feel about support for Internet streaming like Rhapsody or Pandora? Is there enough interest in that for me to think about adding it?

Finally, Scott, it's nice to see that someone besides me is using this thing on a netbook. Three questions.

What is the resolution of your netbook?
Are you running in netbook mode?
Could you post a screen shot of the issue you are dealing with to give me a better idea of what is going on?

Later,
SKG

  Hi SKG,
The Netbook is an Asus Eee PC 701 SD(7")running Ubuntu 10.04 2gig ram,32gig ssd
resolution is 800x480 Ubuntu has some minor problems with this resolution, cutting the bottom of some dialog boxes. The juke(.082) overlaps some of the boxes (Track list & Now playing) I'm not sure how to get a screen-shot, unless I use a camera .I will find out. I've tried netbook and regular, but the problem remains the same.
Have you looked into using the windows media remote? it works great, except
i would like to use the up arrow to highlight the album ,the arrow keys are paralleled with the keyboard the select is the enter, and the # keys are also paralleled
I can use it just with the #s and select, but it would be much easier with the arrows
A suggestion  would be to select Remote in configuration, which give you a highlighted box in the main album window which you can arrow around,if you are at one side of the window and continue to arrow in that direction it would scroll in that direction. The remote works well in the album sub menu up/down select, except for cancel
Thanks,
Scott

hey skg

as far as skinning goes id love to see us be able to change the font type and color of track list , now playing etc

i know you know this one is coming lol , an ability to turn off the numbers and have some lights ala sk juke in its place , i love the view 2 spectrum

other then that it seems to be going very well

how did you go with the retagging app that re numbers my tracks.. as mentioned i was missing some file ive tried to add it but no good , this happens on both my laptops

great work though , any thoughts as to why the k section scrolls slow

oh and an important one for long play lists is when you add to playlist from a now playing song it would be great if the juke would recognise the track is already in the playlist and a message comes up track already added to playlist as windows media player does i think

and dont forget a bluetooth remote , ps3 remote would be awesome as it has skip song volume etc , and bluetooth would be great so you dont have to have line of sight

a remote like this would secure this juke as the best for sure

  Hi Skg,
I remember a post where you were looking into the windows remote, there are entries in lirc for Linux that may make things easier, as the source is available. I have used the remote with Linux, but I don't remember if it was with Mythtv,
or something else, but it worked well.
Also in winxp media center (.82)the number pad * is not the same as the (shift)8 I tried to map the # and * on  the remote to esc and minimize but it didn't work, the (shift)8 and (shift)3 on the keyboard doesn't work either, but the number pad * does.If the juke is minimized, does it lose focus?I was wondering if the minimize key could toggle?

  Hi Skg,
I found a link explaining how to configure mediaplayer to use the remote,it looks like there are system variables like MEDIA_PLAY etc.. that the driver produces to make the app play. I am I'm not a programmer of anything modern,The last time I programmed,Basic had line #s although I do ladder logic for plcs
but I hope this helps:

  Hi Ecosbar,
There is a program called Glovepie that will convert bluetooth devices (remotes and Wii controllers) to keystrokes,or mouse commands, so you may be able to do this with skg, here is a link http://www.instructables.com/id/Using-a-Wii-Remote-to-control-WMP-on-a-PC/ another program is Girder, but I am not sure if it does bluetooth

Hi Ecosbar,
I have had a lot of trouble getting anything blue-tooth to work with my computer, except the blue-tooth headphones,it seems under Xp or Linux much of the problems seem to be security or pairing and getting a connection I tried the Wii remote and the blackberry app without success,I can "see" the devices, but they don't connect properly.

One of the biggest detractors for me is the onscreen numbers and letters.  For a touchscreen application they are great but if your using a button based juke then its pretty redundant to have them onscreen and a lot of wasted space.  All those issues are secondary imo to the stability issues.  My friend and I both started with SKG but after countless crashes we both ended up back with SK.  Im looking forward to further releases and hopefully increased stability.

Meph,

Are you still having stability issues with the latest version, 0.84? If so, could you elaborate? I put a lot of time into that one, patching memory leaks and such, and personally ran it for up to 12 hours at a stretch. I'd appreciate any details you have on what I might have missed. Anyone else seeing issues with the latest build?

i ran it for a couple of stints , it still doesnt scroll as fast as sk and on some letters k for instance it can be a little slow but a big improvement on previous versions

still takes a long time to edit playlists there is a problem there somewhere , sometimes up to a minute or two too open the edit screen

ill try to have another big session soon , and hopefully will get time to check out if i can add a bluetooth remote to work basic functions mainly skip song and volume up and down

still a great juke and potentially the best , i do run a button juke so the numbers are pointless for me to meph i know what you mean on that point

meph do you have photos of your juke id love to see it , i think the best thing i put on mine was the griffen powermate , and utilising push in for add song to playlist , push in turn left clear playlist and push in turn right clear song

looking a buying an emotiva amp and preamp and some ascension speakers soon cant wait

sk then ill give it a work out haha

keep up the good work mate i still check this thread daily and its only that we have two new contracts that ive been doing 150 hrs a fortnight i havent had much time for anything , things are just starting to settle so should have more time on my hands soon

To be honest SKG im not sure im running the latest build or not.  I just started my journey into juking recently and I did have the newest build but maybe I missed a build along the way.  Unfortunately I don't see anywhere in the program that shows the build number and naming the package as SKG_Jukebox_Setup.exe doesn't tell me much either =)  I just downloaded your latest build and will reinstall and try it out.   Don't get me wrong from my earlier post, I really do like your software but stablility issues and UI layout will keep it off my main juke for now.  I used my main Windows 7-64 pc as my test machine for all my juke stuff, mp3 sorting, cover gathering, etc. so I will put it through the gauntlet here this week and let you know how it runs for me.

Egosbar, my signature is the build thread for my Juke.  There are a lot of pictures in there and im adding more every couple days.  Im moving pretty good now on the juke and have lots to add this week.

Im moving pretty good now on the juke and have lots to add this week.

very nice meph , i must take more pics of mine , mine was a build from scratch , still need to do a few little things , i love my griffen volume knob wouldnt be without it as it gives me six functions ,

the other thing that is a pain is the start up time for skg compared to sk , id rather manually add albums ie sk then do it on start up , im  guessing this is why it takes so long , which is a real pain when crashes occur , im feeling a need to listen to some music today so ill give it another go

with a juke like your mate it would be great to have the ability to punch in numbered songs without having such a long number , i have a lot of albums so my song numbers are like 6 digits , wouldnt it be good if the albums moved into a b c d screen , A being the top left album D being the bottom right , then all you would have to do is click ABCD and the track number ( 3 pushes)

The problem with that is that im using the original keypad for my juke which is 0-9, <, >, Popular, and Reset.  The long number doesn't really bother me.  ABCD would be nice but it doesn't allow you to queue up a track that isn't displayed on the screen.  If your favorite track is 301-03 and your showing 001-004 its just a matter of typing it in.  One thing I noticed that SKG or SK for that matter don't have is a popular feature.  I don't know if I would actually want to use it but it was a staple in old jukes.  Im all for options.

what i meant with the ABCD  theory would be to have the window quartered abcd , add a song say d12 which is added to track list then scroll the next four albums in to the abcd window and select another say c01 which is also added to the tracklist ,

sk i just gave the program another go , takes about 3 or 4 minutes to load as i have a lot of albums , tried my playlist first , first song no problems then the next song played with no sound (didnt matter what i did then no song would play with sound even though the track counter was moving) , so then i tried selecting random songs , the second song again did the same thing

still some bugs i think , is there any thoughts on a new update

Meph,

Are you still having stability issues with the latest version, 0.84? If so, could you elaborate? I put a lot of time into that one, patching memory leaks and such, and personally ran it for up to 12 hours at a stretch. I'd appreciate any details you have on what I might have missed. Anyone else seeing issues with the latest build?

are we on .84 or .82 , i never saw any info on a update after .82

Still on 0.82. Sorry for the confusion. I'll look at it this weekend, see if I can duplicate the issue.
