Jpac not Recognized
« on: March 07, 2011, 10:20:17 pm »
Have an older Jpac with the ps/2 slots.  Been trying to set up a MAME unit with a Jpac, Radeon 9200S graphic card, and soft15khz.  I was getting a picture on the arcade monitor, but recently have not been able to.

The JPAC has both LEDs light, but not being recognized by the computer.  Is this because I am using a ps/2 male to USB cord?  Do I need a ps/2 male to ps/2 male cord?  Seems odd that it worked before and now nothing.  I am not getting any image on the computer monitor before or after the Windows display.

Thanks.

Are you sure soft15khz is still running?  It sounds more like a video problem than a controller problem at this point.  However, I really don't know enough to be offering advice...

Are both lights (SYNC IN and SYNC OK) on once your OS is fully up and running?

Did you change video cards or drivers between when it worked and now?  The JPAC doesn't have proper termination in the video inputs, nor does it answer via DDC.  This can confuse some "too smart for their own good" video cards and drivers into thinking nothing is connected and disabling the video output, especially if it's not the "default" output or another monitor is also hooked up.  You may need to find a "force this output to be enabled" option in your drivers.  I've had to do this a few times.

Thanks for the help.  Definitely appreciate it.

Both lights are on when OS is completely loaded.  I tried quite a few different things and don't remember the order.  I did uninstall drivers and installed catalyst 6.5, but thinking I did this after I was having problems.

How do you go about doing this, "You may need to find a "force this output to be enabled" option in your drivers.  I've had to do this a few times."

Thanks again.

If both lights on the JPAC are on, then the PC is outputting valid video (or at least the JPAC thinks it is).  You may have a fault with the JPAC or your monitor.

As for how to force an output to be enabled, it doesn't sound like you need to do this, but if you do, then it completely varies by what driver, driver version, card, and OS you're running.  You'll just have to flounder around until you find the option.  It's completely vendor specific.

If I plug back in the JAMMA game the monitor works fine.  How would I go about trouble shooting the JPAC?

Andy usually does a good job of supported his products.  I'd send him an email or similar.  He may be able to better interpret the status outputs of the JPAC, as well.

Got it working again.  One of the video wires were loose on the connector.  Thanks for the help.
