Jungool 1.3 Released!
« on: March 01, 2011, 12:52:05 am »

'Jungool' a physics based platform adventure with a touch of puzzle solving

If you are familiar with the classic iOS game Rolando you may be mistaken into thinking that 'Jungool' is the same sort of game repackaged and set in the jungle. While it does use physics as an important element of the gameplay style, the similarities end there.

You play the role of a rolling ball shaped critter named 'Wagga' and start out at your home village where the Shaman foretells of a darkness looming over the jungle. Something is polluting the plants and animals and the 'young ones' have gone missing, along with the sacret masks. The 'young ones' are the cute and vocal children of the tribe and you must set them free in selected levels.

After the Shaman explains the situation you make your way through a portal and into a training level that has you collecting 'tea herbs' for the Shaman. This is for making a brew that helps him guide you on your mission.

The first level has you crossing a bridge that is blocked by a flame throwing Troll. Some levels require you to pick up a mask to wear that give you special powers like lifting heavy rocks or scaring enemies into a pit. The first mask turns the main character into a goat which is also a clue on how to complete it.

Every level is unique in both its design, graphics and tasks required to finish it. It features 30 levels (5 of which are unlocked by collecting gems) and the difficulty can vary based on how far you are into the game. A few levels turn the game into a pinball simulator which is a welcome variation on the gameplay. This gives the game replay value and the bonus levels have leaderboards that allow you to compete online.

So if you're looking for an original gaming experience with some variation then Jungool is definately worth it. It is written by an Indie developer that has created several distiguished Nintendo DS homebrew titles such as 'Manic Miner in the Lost Levels' and 'Warhawk DS'.

Over a year in development, 'Jungool' is a universal app that recently had a price drop and is currently selling for $3.99 on the App Store.

Features:
* 30 gorgeous levels and locations
* Thought provoking quests and puzzles to solve
* Several unique obstables and enemies to avoid - beware of the Hunters!
* Gamepad style controls
* Gems to collect and bonus levels to unlock
* OpenFeint and Game Center support
* Objectives, achievements and leaderboards
* Amazing graphics and animation
* Pumping jungle inspired soundtrack
* Retina support

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad
* Requires iOS 3.1 or later
* 132 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Jungool 1.1 has reduced it's price to $3.99 US exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Ben Baker, one of the developers of Jungool and CEO of Headsoft, is available for comment.

Looks interesting.  I just tried to purchase, but looks like you have to be connected to WiFi to download.  I'll purchase it when I get home in the morning.

Unfortunately there is a 20 MB limit for downloading app's via 3G so the only way to get a copy is via wifi or to copy across from iTunes.

I hope you like the game, and any feedback is always welcome  :cheers:

I still haven't had a chance to download, but what's the controls like.  Is this touch based or tilt?  It looks like it could be an interesting cabinet game using trackball controls.  Any possibility of a PC version?

It's quite amazing how many people have asked for ports already!  :dizzy:

It's definately on the cards to port to Mac. Early versions of the game were developed on the PC when I was waiting for my MacBook so that does mean a PC version could be likely aswell. Not sure about Android or WP7 yet as it's quite heavily optimized for the iPhone (ie. OpenGL ES).

This why I diddent catch up to my software like MultiFe (I would port it to Mac, but did never happens) and Jukebox..... Its due I was working for music for that game, and was whole fun to do.

Hehe, we could property earn more money if we did those ports, even I asked that too, pretty early in the dev (Android, Windows Phone 7, PSP Minis, Windows Netbooks as well Mac). For now, not sure what its would do, and we wait how the game is going, before we official announce it. Hopefully, since I would like to see ports too.

PS. The game use a onscreen gamepad, using 2way input (Up/Down not used) + jump button.

Ok guys.  I downloaded and played for a little bit this morning.  I haven't spent much time with it, but did bounce around in the first level.  First impression is that the game is pretty looking.

Good:
+ Interesting concept
+ Nice looking graphics and environment.
+ Sound seems to fit the first level quite nicely

Bad:
- Hunter animation just doesn't look right.
 -Jump control - Jump doesn't seem to be very responsive.  I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or not.  It may come into play later in the game, but I just haven't played enough to know if this was intended or not.  If you press jump while in the air (like a double jump), your character will hit the ground and immediately jump.  I was expecting the character to land, so I could press jump again when I was ready to jump.  This really makes jumping from platform to platform very difficult if you prematurely hit the button while still in the air.

I'm sure I'll have more to say later, but those were just my first impression after about 10 minutes of playtime.

I have completed the game a least 3 times (and tested levels many times), so its should not been a issue (you would learn it anyway sooner and later and take that as a advance later on). If I remember correct, its was on design. This is really due Wagga elsewise would not respond very well to jumps, due bouncing, and then cause later levels really hard to complete.

Its was annoying in the start if I remember correct, but fell much better when there is more action in later levels.

Mightbeen some "Jump Responsive" could been add as a option to the menu?

How do you redeem the codes?  All we see is an option to purchase.

 :dunno

In iTunes go to the App Store and at the bottom of the page (under Manage) is a link called "Redeem".
