lcd mounted vertical for 4:3
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:42:32 pm »
I got a 24" widescreen lcd in my cab and i cant really go much bigger than that. What i would like to know is, is it possible for me to go to a 32"+ widescreen lcd, mounted vertical in my cab with the screen rotated so that i can have a larger 4:3 image. By doing this the 32"+ would have a similar width as my 24" but the image will be taller.

I tested this a little bit with my 24" and it seems to work but the image was centered on the monitor. So in the vertical position with the screen rotated i have even gaps on the top and the bottom. Is it possible to adjust the image so maybe its a little higher as opposed to be centered? Due to the length of the screen i may have to play with where the image is positioned on the screen for it to look right in my cab.

I think you can achieve this with the layout files used for bezel artwork, dont know the specifics but if you search for those terms you should be on the right track.

Although your reason for doing it is different, this discussion is applicable:
Display vertical games on left side of screen instead of centered?

There are two ways I know of to do this:

1) Mame has options in the slider controls section of its config screen that allow you to scale and move the display. This is what I've used to make sure vertical games fit the 4:3 viewing window in the glass in front of my 5:4 LCD panel.

2) If you've got an Nvidia graphics card and the monitor is DVI/HDMI you can use the Nvidia control panel to adjust scaling and placement of the screen.
