Beemo (the Vectrex-like box with the letters BM on the side) is a regular character in Adventure Time. There's even a new episode where Jake and Fin get sucked into him/her.

There's an obscene assload of cartoon references to video games.
Robot Chicken
Simpsons
Scooby Doo
Futurama
Fairly Odd Parents
South Park
Drawn Together
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
Maya and Miguel
Dora the Explorer (has that weird PC UI)
Family Guy

Those are the ones I remember of the top of my head.

http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/52921/detail/ homer donkey kong

happen to have any links to those? I remember a few simpsons references. Specifically an old retired donkey kong clip, but I could only find it in Spanish.

Not a cartoon, but I noticed DigDug and Tapper references in the kids show Yo Gabba Gabba yesterday.

It would probably take me hours to track down and locate all the clips with the video game references, even if they were posted online. I don't know if I want to put in that much time when I'd rather be playing the games themselves.

I can recall some of their references so if you want to go look, knock yourself out.

Robot Chicken -Famous for several sketches including Dig Dug (first episode), and Centipede (penis as a joystick). They've been referenced here before.
Simpsons -When isn't there a reference? Far too numerous to recall much less list, this show practically lives off of pop culture references.
Scooby Doo -My most recent recollection is with Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase, the story arc is inside a VR simulator and the final battle occurs in an arcade. However I know there is at least one reference in the Pup series and likely references in some of the others series, though not likely the early series pre-1978.
Futurama -This series is made by the creator of the Simpsons. In one, Earth is attacked ala Space Invaders. In another, the characters enter a VR simulator. Amongst many others.
Fairly Odd Parents -Timmy Turner owns an game console which is part of a central plot in several episodes.
South Park -Several episodes such as the Go God Go! story arc.
Drawn Together -There are spoofs to Link and Pikachu.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends -In at least one episode a Gamecube-like box appears.
Maya and Miguel -An educational episode citing the dangers of too much game playing.
Dora the Explorer (has that weird PC UI) <~~
Family Guy -The most famous reference is an opening intro with Stewie riding his tricycle and ending up in a Doom sequence.
Superjail -Last night episode sported twins controlling a robot bent on killing everyone. The interface has a 2600-like look and feel.

One more I forgot about.
Teen Titans -Some episodes sport the characters playing games

Wow thats odd. I was just thinking about doing a similar thread. :dizzy:

Ive just been watching the new Pink Panther and friends with my son, there was a good one called 'Pinxilated'.

Its about an arcade with ticket redemption and the Pink Panther ends up in SF2 as Ryu! and running thru a level of Donkey Kong.

Last Sunday's Simpsons had a sort-of Ms Pac Man machine (more of a spoof of one), that got smashed by a panicked dot-com bust victim. LOL

Man, the Simpsons sucks these day, with really lame stories, but they had some fun spoofs of animated shorts in this last one, including a 3D scene making fun of Pixar movies and one in claymation spoofing Wallace & Grommit.
NO MORE!!

Dude, its been on for over 20 years, Im surprised it didnt start sucking sooner. I have no IDEA what kind of story they could come up with nowadays, using semi-tranditional animation that WOULDNT suck. I say its time to let the Simpsons die, they have been around long enough.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Yeah, I'm surprised that south park has held up pretty well though. I remember making sure to catch every episode of the Simpsons up to High School. So around 2001. Ten years and a movie later, and it's still around.  Kids still like it though, so as long as they have an audience they have profit.

yeah family guy is old.  I think Simpsons were pretty good at the beggining, then got really bad, then got better than really bad after they let go of the random stuff happening model that comes from fam guy. I haven't checked them out in a while.

I was searching to see if The Critic ever had a video game reference. I for some reason imagined him eating food like pac man. I swear, sometimes my friends and I would falsely remember scenes that never happened in the Simpsons. We'd all laugh though, because it fit.

OFFTOPIC: The Critic was ace! Remember the dryer channel? Which became the clock channel in the Simpsons then Hypnotoad in Futarama.

I believe Groening is losing a little bit of his edge. He claimed that he wanted to quit working on Futurama because it wasn't interesting or some other ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- nonsense. The thing with Futurama is it allowed him to explore plots that simply would not be possible with the Simpsons. Then the moron flip-flops and changes his mind about producing more Futurama shows. I think he didn't realize quite what he had and the possibilities the series presented over the Simpsons.

In a nutshell, I think he's trapped. He doesn't know what else to do to make oodles of cash and he's tired of the work he's doing now.

According to Wikipedia, The Critic qualifies since Pikachu makes an appearance in S3E3. I didn't watch very many episodes of The Critic. I wanted to say it was because it conflicted with The PJ's (You see Thurgood in a Futurama episode and vice versa) but they aired about five years apart. Something else aired the same time as TC, I just can't remember what it was.

That's funny, I completely forgot about that show until SciFi (or SyFy whatever  ::) ) reran the episodes. Used to watch it quite a bit when I used to work late shifts. Now that show is a damn good example on how to ---fudgesicle--- up a really good premise (it's basically a precursor to Stargate). Cromags?! Quinn 2?! Are you ---smurfing--- serious?? I can't recall very many shows that successfully managed to jump the shark twice.

But I digress, according to imdb, Sliders first aired from 1995 to 1999. The critic first ran from 1994-1995. So no... I basically missed the entire Critic run. If it was Sliders, I would have at least caught the first season.

I remembered I used to watch another Jerry O'Connell series. Remember "My Secret Identity"? As a kid, I used to watch that and "Out of this World" almost religiously.

Damn. Took a look on Wikipedia: 1994_in_American_television and there are all sorts of good shows that ran the same years as The Critic. I just can't remember which one ran in the same time slot or even what time slot The Critic ran in. I'm guessing it might have ran around the same time as DS9 or X-Files if it resided in a prime time slot.

Yeh wiki says it used to be on ABC in '94 then FOX in '95.  I definitely remember it being on the same channel as the simpsons, I never watched ABC.

Sliders became crap not due to poor writing, but due to a pitiful budget and the remaning cast and crew just not understanding when it was time to give up.  The show started on Fox (uh-oh, we know how this is going to turn out) and for the first couple of seasons the producers and creators of the show were left to their own devices and the show became successful.  Of course Fox's flawless track record or ruuning any good thing had to remain in tact so the network executives started making  creative decisions and tightened the budget to the point of where John-Ryes Davies quit.  Seeing as how he was the only established actor on the show that should have been the end and Fox did indeed cancel the show after that.

Scifi picked it up for the last two seasons, but this was the old scifi, not the current syfy, and thus the budget was even less.  Davies didn't come back, and it was apparent that O Connel wasn't going to stick around due to his budding movie career (at the time at least).  That is why silly plots like quinn 2 and quinn's brother were put in place, to have a backup in case he quit.  And of course he did quit in the second to last season.

So sliders was a show that should have lasted two seasons but got stretched into 5.

My secret identity might have been the best show ever made btw.  That or misfits of science.
