Hi,
I have a question - with a possible solution...
It appears the only viable solution to get a fully functional GunCon2 light gun working on a PS2 without a old school TV is the Top Gun.
The problem is you have to be SO FAR from the sensor bar that it's really not usable for an arcade with an arcade monitor!
The only proposed solutions (AFAIK), involve placing a lens in the nose of the gun... but ones of sufficient quality are not readily available or cost effective.
The only thing the lens does it make the IR leds appear to be farther away by making them appear closer together, and there is always going to be distortion which will negatively effect accuracy.
Instead of making them appear closer together - why not actually put them closer together?
Either alter the existing housing, or make a new one and proportionally place them say 2 or 3 times closer together. There would be no distortion - so accuracy should not be effected and this would be a CHEAP fix!
Worst case, if the bar is hard to mod - bury the bar inside the cab somewhere and just run extension wires to a new location for the leds fabricated within your bezel - seems easy, am I missing something?
This would seem to be totally possible as this is essentially what Ultimarc did with their bar.
I don't have a Top Gun to try this on - but I'm hoping someone here will, or can explain why this would not work.
I'm about ready to get one and start hacking LOL!
