Mame .139 Video Options ( RESOLVED )
« on: February 06, 2011, 06:02:42 pm »
I am having a problem with Mame .139.   Bubble Bobble II always shows up reduced and does not expand to cover the screen.  I use tab to get to the settings and select video options.  When I select 4:3 Bubble Bobble II goes full screen and looks great.   When I exit mame and restart Bubble Bobble II is back where it shows as a small screen.   I am running mame as admin and it does not seem to make a difference.  Where are the video options saved and are they saved per game or for mame in general?

Thanks this one glich is driving me crazy.

Interesting, I've seen similar things with setting the aspect ratio like that where I can do it, play the game, exit, startup and play it, exit, then it loses the settings.  Like it only holds if you set the settings during the session, if you restart and play then stop, the settings are lost.  Something to look at the mame testers site and see if it's a known issue, I don't ever need to set those settings anymore myself so just forgot about it, but maybe a bug in mame perhaps.

Check to see if your Mame folder is read only.  It's probably not but it's worth a shot.  Then go to your config folder (usually "cfg") and see if it's read only.  Again, it's probably not.  Look in the config folder and see if you have a file for Bubble Bobble (it'd be under the rom name) and see if it's read only.

Do you have a Mame.ini file too?  Make sure it isn't read only.

Those are the only windows things that I can think of.  Are you running from command line or through a front end?

Tried thru command line and front end and it seems to be the same problelm both ways.   Tried regular mame.exe and mameui32/64 and always the same.   The odd time it seems to come up properly but have not yet been able to pin it down.  will check to make sure directories are not read only.

I'm on .140 or .141 I think.  I tried changing things so I could duplicate your problem but can't.  I don't see where the video settings are stored for game specific games either.  I tried deleting my config file for that game and it stayed at the widescreen setting instead of going back to the default of 4:3....

Some of my directories were read only.   Not sure how they got that way but probably has to do with copying them from the server.  Changed that and now the video seems to be OK now.  Still not sure where it is stored but as long as it works I am happy  ;D ;D
