Can't get Daphne working with Mamewah
« on: February 05, 2011, 11:04:03 pm »
Hello and thanks for reading.  This site has been very helpful to me.

I'm having trouble getting Daphne to work with Mamewah.  I can get Dragon's Lair to work with Daphne and Mame Rom set 141 with Mamewah so I don't understand why I'm having so much trouble.  When I  create a folder in Mamewah for Daphne it creates two ini files which are both completely blank and a games folder.  I've tried copying and pasting information from the mame folder, etc. but I'm not having any luck.

I don't know if there's something just not working with Mamewah (which is why the folders aren't automatically putting the default information in) or if I'm just "aiming" the information for Daphne incorrectly.   It sounds like the roms are supposed to aim at the filesystems folder (or something like that), but that folder is empty.  Is that my problem?  If so, what should I put there?

Also, when I was having Mame load, it at least showed that Mame and Mamewah were working together before I downloaded the Roms.  I can't even get Daphne to appear in Mamewah.  I feel fairly confident that I'm 'aiming' at the correct emulator file.  To double check, it's the Daphne.exe file, correct?

Thanks in advance for any help of consideration.

Chris

Daphne can be a some what difficult emulator to get working depending on the version you are using.
Daphne relies on the framefiles and in that file there are usually paths that tell daphne where to look for files.
Your best bet is to get it working from a commandline first and then you can get it to work from Mamewah.

Below is an example if you have Daphne installed on your C drive.     c:\daphne
This is only an example to head you in the right direction.

### Daphne.ini (mamewah v1.62) ###

emulator_title                            Daphne

### List Generation Settings ###
rom_path                                  c:\daphne\framefile
rom_extension                             txt
dat_file                                  auto
nms_file                                  c:\daphne\daphne.nms
catver_ini_file                           auto
list_generation_method                    rom_folder

### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines
emulator_commandline                      c:\daphne\daphne.exe [name] vldp -framefile "C:\daphne\framefile\[name].txt" -fullscreen -nohwaccel{nodosbox}{nosafelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines
general_app_commandlines

### Artwork Locations ###
artwork_image_paths                       c:\daphne\images
movie_preview_path                        c:\daphne\videos
movie_artwork_no                          1

### Screen-Saver Settings ###
enable_music_in_screensaver               0
select_random_game                        0
saver_type                                movie
movie_path                                c:\mamewah\ssmovie
movie_fullscreen                          1
quit_delay                                30
saver_commandline

### Additional Settings ###
music_path                                c:\mamewah\music
lcd_display_file_path

### Settings used by MAMEWAH ###

Thank you very much for the response!  I am a total noob and I have no idea how to get daphne running from the commandline.   :dunno

I think my ini folder is set up similarly to yours, but Mamewah isn't really recognizing anything in the daphne folder I created for the config folder of mamewah.  Any suggestions for me?

Right now I have mamewah and daphne run at start.  Mamewah appears to be in the prime position so all of the mame games are available first.  After that you can get out of mamewah and into daphne if you really want to play dragon's lair.  Pretty much you're turning off the machine after dragon's lair though because it's pretty tough to get mamewah running again with only the keyboard.  (This is going into an arcade cabinet for my nephews).

Any further help, suggestions, fixes, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again
Chris

1st  what version of Daphne are you using?

2nd where is Daphne on you system?   such as   c:\Daphne

3rd this is an example for a command line for Daphne installed in c:\Daphne

 c:\daphne\daphne.exe [name] vldp -framefile "C:\daphne\framefile\[name].txt" -fullscreen -nohwaccel{nodosbox}{nosafelaunch}

where [name] is....is the rom name for the game and after -framefile is the location of the framefiles.

In daphne loader and if you have Daphne running correctly, under configure tab and then advanced you can check the display command line box
so it will tell you what the command line it is using to launch the games.

Thanks so much for your help!  I apologize that I didn't get back to you earlier, but I didn't get back to this until today.  Anyway, it turns out that after I manually added daphne to the Arcade config file in the config folder your path worked perfectly!  I'm so happy as my other fix was a dud.

Thanks again and best wishes.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!  I had some issues with instant sheller and had to do a system restore and now I can't get daphne and mamewah working together.  Mamewah does at least recognize daphne now, but I'm having all kinds of issues with the rom files.  I'm using the ini file from above for the mamewah - daphne config.  My fileframe folder is empty.  I think I'm using the newest version of daphne because I re-downloaded it today.  Also, it's located at C: daphne.

Although I'm able to get the games running under daphne, I can't get the commandline under the advanced tab.  It just shows up blank.  Hopefully someone can lead my in the right direction.  I'm so confused.

Thanks all.
