Advice on scanning a CP
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:19:29 pm »
I am looking for a Black Tiger CP overlay and it seems that no one carries a repo. So I was wondering how hard or what is involved in scanning an overlay that is already attached to a panel. Is it even possible?

Take all the hardware off of it, lay an open flatbed scanner on it, scan, move, repeat. Then those 'tiles' can be stiched into a single image. I can help with that.

Awesome! I'll have to dig my old scanner out this weekend. How do you do the front edge, the same way? It's got a fairly big round over.

Pretty much. You won't know exactly how well it'll work on the round until you do it. Some scanners will surprise you with how good an image they will take on a curved surface. others are just lame.

OK. I will try asap. I really appreciate the offer for help too as I have NO SKILLS when it comes to graphics and the software to "fix" them.

If we can get a good scan of this I think it will be a nice addition (for me :)) and the community. From all the searching I've done so far there have been quite of few people looking for them.

Ok. Got the scanner out and I'm ready to go. Couple of quick questions. What type of file should I save this in? (jpeg, gif  or bmp) Also I think it can go up too 1200 dpi in "picture scan" mode. Is that going to be good enough?

These are gonna end up over 100mb per scan, how do you want them? Zipped individually and emailed or posted here (don't think I can) or...?

1200 is a little excessive. 400//600 is suficient.
I'm on the planning stage

bandwidth is cheap. file sizes are irrelevant. you can always scale down.  :dunno
