Betson Imperial 27" Digital Monitor
« on: January 26, 2011, 11:59:53 am »
I am looking into getting Betson Imperial 27" monitor (44-4070-DF or 44-4070-RT), however I have read reviews and comments on forums that the rotate and focus functions do not work.  These reviews and comments were all from late '04 and early '05, so I am wondering if this is still a problem or has this sense been fixed?

Thanks for any help.

I believe those functions were added into the on screen setup menu but never actually setup to work, for what ever reason.
I have had the Betson 27" (made by Kortek) now for over 5 years and I like it. I have not had problems with mine.
I would sorta doubt that the rotate now works.
Focus works by the pot on the flyback.

A nice thing with Betson is, if you go on their site and see where their warehouses are, maybe theres one by you and you can go pick it up rather than have it shipped.

Good luck with your decision

Betson ordered the KT-2914F and KT-2914DF (which one you get from Betson varies with when it was sold originally - new ones, if they still have them, should be the DF) without the rotate circuitry.  The factory literally just left it off.  Hence, the option is still there in the menu, but it doesn't do anything.

If it's badly rotate, you can still manually correct by rotating the yoke (or just return the thing to Betson).  Slight issues are, well, slight and hopefully don't need correction.

The focus control on the flyback works just fine.  All the other OSD options seem to do something sensible in both user and service mode.

There are some issues with horizontal non-linearity (aka "side compression") in CGA modes.  It's apparently worse on the DF than the F models.  I have an F model, and it's there but slight.  With some careful adjustment, I was able to make it really only visible on a grid pattern and occasionally on certain side scrollers, but it's not objectionable.  The problem doesn't seem to exist on EGA, VGA, or SVGA modes.

I have the F model too, but I thought the rotate function doesn't work.

The rotate doesn't work on ANY of the units sold by Betson, be they 'F' or 'DF' models from Kortek.  Betson ordered them all without the rotation circuitry.

Generally, this is fine.  Rotation is something that should be adjusted at the factory and shouldn't change later on.  It doesn't vary with signal input like size and position do.  However, it's handy to have the runtime adjustment in cast the factory screws up.  Since you lack that adjustment, just make sure the factory didn't screw up when you initially unbox it, and you should be fine.

Thanks guys.  What bezel would I go with for the DF model?
