Digital vs Analog Monitor (new at this)
« on: January 25, 2011, 09:21:54 pm »
I'm looking into building a cocktail arcade similar to the Whammocade design.  I'm not quite sure how to handle the monitor situation.

Is a digital crt monitor necessary for a good Mame cabinet?  I can't seem to find one.

I've been looking at the Makvison 24.8" Tri-Mode monitor at Happ, but it's analog.  People have mentioned that with analog you have to manually switch resolutions for each game.  Is that something that has to be done? What if I use Ultimarc's ArcadeVGA?

Can someone clue me in on my options?

Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks!

If you plan to run games at their native resolutions a digital monitor is better. With analog you have to manually readjust the screen after you switch modes.

I have two cabs, both with analog CRTs. One I disabled native res and just run everything 640x480 because I got tired of always making adjustments. The other is CGA only and I run games at their native resolutions but mainly play games that use the same mode (pacman, ms pacman, galaga, etc.).

Have you considered the Betson Imperial 24.8" Mult-Sync
