Bezel in Direct Draw

I'ved been trying to add bezel artwork to vertical games so I don't see the black borders.
I'm using DirectDraw for MAME. Is it possible to do this using Direct Draw instead of D3D.
I'm not being able to find out, any advice is welcome.

Turned bezels on with direct draw and D3D in MameUI64 and it did not seem to make any difference.   Played MSpacman and the bezel showed up in both settings.

ummm, maybe I have an issue with other settings such as Hardware Streching or something.
I'll keep trying, thanx1¡.
