How/Who/Where to Mount my Monitor.
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:41:36 am »
I have a Dynamo cab, I believe its an HS-9?  It's about 25 1/2'' to 25 3/4'' wide.

I spent the better part of 2 years trying to find a proper monitor and the typical, do I go LCD/CRT yada yada.

So, I finally decided on a monitor, went with a 27'' LCD, and it fits perfectly.  I have just enough clearance on each side to make me comfortable.  Now that I've found my monitor, I need to get it mounted and close up the front of the cab.

Here are a few pictures of the monitor in all its glory.

Now that you've seen it, I need help mounting it.  With the normal CRT you have 2 planks horizontally placed at the top and bottom and the CRT Frame is screwed to those.  Right now I'm using those planks rested against the back, you can see in the 1st picture.  Now, as a temporary solution its perfectly fine, but I'll be moving in 6 months and don't want to have to take out the monitor and box it up and make sure everything is secure.

Can anyone help provide ideas on how to mount it?

IE - screw in supports on the sides, have a plank or two span the width of the arcade that the monitor would mount to?

Would/Should I purchase a monitor wall mount and mount that to planks on the inside?

I really don't know what to do here and this is 1 of the last few things to do. (Marquee & Light, Mount keyboard and monitor, Bezel for monitor, decide where PS2 controllers go.)

A lot of people end up putting a flat piece a long the back and mounting it to the VESA holes in the back of the monitor, then taking the wood and mounting that to the frame. That keeps you from having to drill holes in the monitor frame itself, since you're using holes already designed for mounting.

There are lots of examples in this in the project threads.

Bah, that's my fault for not looking.  Haven't been here in a while, but I'm just used to finding "do I go LCD or CRT" threads and the typical "Go CRT, its better/authentic" and "LCD is cheaper etc".

I'll do some more searching.

The only scary part about mountint it is will I do it correctly and have it all line up :).

Well if you mount the board to the back of the monitor  you should then be able to move it rather freely within the monitor space to find the correct alignment then attach it to the main body with whatever makes the most sense for that location, be it an L-bracket or just screwing it flat into existing wood.

Just use a flat board mounted on cleats or L brackets and drill holes in it for your VESA mount in the back of the monitor.

I used a kreg jig to make pocket holes for mounting to the side of the cab and to hold 2 pieces of scrap together for the mount but the idea is the same.  The four holes in the center of the board are for the VESA mount.
