Electrocoin Goliath mk3 side panels - AI template?
« on: January 18, 2011, 09:11:19 am »
Hi guys

I don't know if anyone can help here.

When designing your side art, how do you get the correct size and shape of the canvas you're drawing on in Adobe Illustrator please? Specifically: I have an Electrocoin Goliath mk 3 cab (see the bottom of this page: http://electrocoin.uk.com/goliath/ ). I am looking to create a pair of canvases based on the real-world measurements/angles of the side panels but I have no idea how to do it (I've got a bunch of AI files of the different characters and logos I want, I was just going to scale/position them where I want them). Is there a generic "arcade cab side panel" template I can use and just re-scale according to my cab? Or are there even actual canvas templates with the correct figures for this cab? How do you go about creating the basic canvas for your sideart panels?

Many thanks for any advice here I'm a total noob when it comes to AI.

Cheers

Alot of times from what i have seen ( and its a big stress reducer) Alot of people measure top to bottom and left to right and make a square print... Then apply and trim excess off... (example a)

But if you are want to be specific to that type of side... For example I had an old Universal Mr.Do cab that had particular lines and curves I wanted to copy... I took a roll of old poster paper and covered the side and traced out the design... I then took the sheet cut it into strips, marked them and scanned them using an old bed scanner... I then put it back together thru Photoshop and then vectored the design via Illustrator...
(example B)

Note, its not perfect but with what i had, it suited my needs...

Hope this is what ypu are trying to ask...Good luck
