What can I say? If SOMEONE from this movie doesn't win an Oscar, then there is no point having the Oscars anymore...

A story that might seem inconsequential in the grand scheme of things- some guy with a speech impediment has one last shot at therapy, but is pretty much resigned to his stammer. Of course when he becomes king of England the importance of being able to address an empire overrides his personal fears. A little known part of history beautifully recreated (",)

All the cast members are brilliant, and suit their roles. Some are dead ringers, like the dude who plays Neville Chamberlain. Not important, but nice when it happens. My only gripe is one of royal convention, which is not the movies fault. The people we know as George and Edward and Mary had different names before they become regal. Poms (and popes) are funny like that

I know how you feel. I just saw Hachi for the first time. Man, I must be getting old. I didn't get that close to crying since the Benji films. (I cried when Greedo shot first so that doesn't count.) Good films that really pop are few and far between.

Or I've gotten more cynical as I've gotten older. I dunno. If you can predict the entire plot of a movie within the first ten minutes and predict exactly what each actor will say throughout, it's hard to be surprised and pleased anymore.

Just got back from this movie, and I have to agree that it was really outstanding.  Generally I don't like movies that don't have aliens or lots of things blowing up (or both!!), but the King's Speech was really well done.

I mean this in the nicest way, but have you ever SEEN the oscars?  This film is what is referred to as oscar jail-bait.  You've got next to no budget, limited release, fairly obscure actors, and a story about someone overcoming a disability, it involves the royal family and it's a period piece.  Good god man the only way it could seem more appealing to the board if the king was a gay, overweight black woman who's slightly slow.  (But not full-on retarded... remember the rule... if you go full retarded you lose, but if you are half-retarded you win.  )

Haven't seen this film, but I've heard good things.  I'm just saying man.... hollywood blockbusters and scifi/fantasy films are what get snubbed at the awards.  Stuff like this is the only thing those artsy-fartsy panelists ever recognize.
