It doesn't work worth a damn for me.

The latency in controls is just too much to make the experience worth while.

On games like Batman it just seemed sloppy feeling, but in games like Dirt 2, it was unplayable. Never was there a time that everything felt great.

I think that OnLive is a brilliant idea.  I just also think that the internet infrastructure of North America is ten years away from reliably running this service in most areas.  I bet you it works great on a LAN though. :)

I've tried it a few times and it's hit or miss.  I have a 6 Mbps connection but that's no guarantee that latency won't make everything unplayable.

I think it might be good for a few people who live every close to the servers and want to play games on a severely underpowered machine (like a netbook), but I think for most gamers you're better off buying a console or putting a $50 video card in your desktop.

Just tried Dirt2, on a 20MB connection but latency killed it, it looked great until I navigated in game menus and that was sluggish enough, but the game was unplayable, really showed the crash damage effects ;D

I'll try this at work tomorrow on our Super Janet connection (100Mb/sec download 72Mb/sec upload - latency usually pretty low) and see what it's like.

The on-live server won't play happy with our proxy so I couldn't test this today :embarassed:

I'll have to have a word with our technicians see if we can set this up so I can use it as a demo of cloud processing.

Watched a few youtube demos of it.  $10 a month for the service and "10 minute trials" of the games.  If you want to unlock the game to play more  $50?  What happens when you cancel, left with nothing for those game passes you purchased.

And WHERE is all the cpu cycles coming from ?  I guarantee they are leasing through the company that does Folding@Home, that means all you sucks are using your hardware with no compensation for other people playing.

I'll give you a 9/10 for creativity, but a 1/10 for accuracy.  The only part you got right was that some games are $50.

There are plenty of valid reasons why OnLive isn't ready to replace local gaming, so you don't have to make stuff up.

The CPU cycles are coming from a dedicated server farm, this is a professional outfit.

I've tried it in the UK (not officially supported) on a 10mb (up & down) line.  You can clearly see the potential of a thin client console system for the user and the console company, but the tech to do it at 1080p reliably is a long way off, especially in the UK.

I actually just bought my first Onlive game last night.  They've been doing 75% off sales all weekend.  If anyone's interested in trying it out for a more reasonable price you need to follow @Onlive on twitter and watch it closely for the rest of the day.  They post a coupon code that only lasts 30 minutes that's good for any game for 75% off.

I picked up the GOTY edition of Borderlands for about $8 after tax.  I figure if I'm on the road with only my weak laptop I might be able to play one of my favorite games.  Probably not, since hotel networks probably won't cut it, but it's worth a try.
