DPC Latency - sound corruption
« on: December 23, 2010, 11:53:03 am »
So, has anybody run into DPC Latency under Windows 7 and the resultant choppy audio?

I don't know what happened, but my MSI all-in-one w/touchscreen has suddenly developed a problem with DPC latencies that are off the chart using DPC latency checker.  The little start-up music stutters horribly.  MP3's are unlistenable.  If I disable the built-in wireless card, the situation improves (after about 4 minutes of processing the disable change).....  But there are still occassional spikes seen using the DPC Latency checker utility in excess of 16,000usec, so there are still occasional dropout/s/stutters/crackles in the audio stream.

Something almost had to have applied an update (Windows 7 itself?) that impacted the PC"s performance.  And I can't get it back to a usable state, considering that the sole reason I have the PC is for audio...as a stereo 'component' to play my mp3 collection.

The most common advice regarding this is to "Update your drivers".  But when there are no updates to be had, that isn't much help.  Like I said, it's an MSI all-in-one computer, so no opportunity to replace components or move them amongst slots.  And, from what I hear, reloading to the factory default environment is not necessarily going to fix this, either.
