Dynamo Arcade 19' converted to MAME
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:27:22 pm »
Hello all,

I've been reading through this forum for the past few months in order to finish my MAME cabinet. I picked up an old Dynamo arcade 19' (no monitor) from a repair shop for $50.00 on the first week of October. After working tirelessly for 7 wks I finally completed the project and I'm happy with the end result. The link below is to a short video I made on the work I've done to cabinet.

Very nice job.  Definitely looks like something you'd have seen in the arcade in the early 90s  :applaud:

Thanks. I was debating on whether to go with a CRT or LCD. Ultimately I chose LCD for reliability and ease of use but maybe if I do another project down the road I'll use a CRT.

Very nice! What do you use to cut holes in the metal cp?

I used a arbor bit with a with a 1 1/8 diameter hole saw. The different diameters can be purchased individually. It was a real pain to drill each hole with the average time taking 10 minutes per hole.

It looks great. A CRT would have been better, but if you're playing games from probably about early 90's on it will look fine. Pac man and DK for example look pretty crappy on a LCD cuz the pixels are all super blocky and such.

I bet you could find a better side art though. Or make your own. I don't really like when I see a big squarish piece of side art on a cab. It just doesn't look good to me.

can you just post the pix? no streaming video allowed at work.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I wasn't crazy about the side art either but I think that is what they used on the original SF2 machines. I will be ordering the bezel from game on grafix next week and eventually install a coin door to finish it off.
