Saw this today. It confirms to me that James Franco is a great actor, since I have only seen him in secondary roles but never noticed. But the big marks go to Danny Boyle. That's some great directing, well photographed too.
I wasn't sure it would be a particularly entertaining movie, since everyone knows what happens, but it is filled out really nicely with flashbacks and hallucinatory reverie. And the character keeps his humour for much of the time, which is entertaining.
I was a bit irked by the bone snapping scene, since I remember in an interview some years ago, he said he had to break the bone once the cutting was done. In the movie he breaks the bone first. Also, I'm sure his goatee got smaller and smaller as the days passed! I can only surmise that the reports about people passing out etc when he has to cut his arm off are exaggerated. Unless it's been re-edited or something, I wasn't disturbed at all...
It was a nice touch to have Aron Ralston with wife and child in the movie. I take my hat off to you, dude!
