Saw this today. It confirms to me that James Franco is a great actor, since I have only seen him in secondary roles but never noticed. But the big marks go to Danny Boyle. That's some great directing, well photographed too.
I wasn't sure it would be a particularly entertaining movie, since everyone knows what happens, but it is filled out really nicely with flashbacks and hallucinatory reverie. And the character keeps his humour for much of the time, which is entertaining. I was a bit irked by the bone snapping scene, since I remember in an interview some years ago, he said he had to break the bone once the cutting was done. In the movie he breaks the bone first. Also, I'm sure his goatee got smaller and smaller as the days passed!

I can only surmise that the reports about people passing out etc when he has to cut his arm off are exaggerated. Unless it's been re-edited or something, I wasn't disturbed at all...

It was a nice touch to have Aron Ralston with wife and child in the movie. I take my hat off to you, dude!

4.5/5

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - The Way Back, The Kings Speech, Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me, Watchmen, The girl with the dragon tattoo

4/5 - True Grit, Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

Saw it, not bad. I guess I am just getting a little tired of the trapped in a place and need to get out before you die kind of movies. Feel free to add any i leave off.

Open Water 2 – Group of people jump off boat in middle of ocean to realize there is no ladder to get back on boat.

Phone Both – Guy goes in Phone Both in middle of city. He gets a call from a sniper from an unknown building that will kill him if  he leaves the phone both or does anything the sniper does not tell him to do.

Saw 1 - Two guys wake up handcuffed in a dirty room, not knowing how they got there.  They also find out that a steel door will close in 24 hours; will it be there Tomb?

Frozen – Kids taking the last ski lift get stuck up there at night. They discover no one will be back for 5 days, will they freeze to death?

I see what you're saying. Thing is, this movie is about a real event, which makes it interesting to me.

Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, someone else actually say Frozen? My GF and I watched that the other night, and oh MAN was it a good laugh. Talk about snooze fest. I dont understand how movies like that get funded. Yeah that would be scary, but cmon, any type of common sense would deter that sort of event from happening. Nobody had a cell phone? Granted, they want to make a movie, but damn, cmon. I thought it was hilarious when Iceman slid down the mountain, then the chick came down and bam. Wolves ate him. Hilarious.  :laugh2:

I liked how they were so cold they were getting frostbite, but still didn't zip their jackets up all the way.

EXACTLY! I wanted that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- on her face to get bigger too. "Hey Im gonna put my hand on this icy piece of steel. What?! It froze there in the night!??! " Stupid. Kinda thought it was funny too how the actor that played Iceman in the Xmen movies ended up almost getting "frozen'.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Just read the Wikipedia entry for Frozen.

How is this film even possible? I cannot believe a ski resort would be in such a state of disrepair that:
Only one lift operator (base) would be in control of the lift. Where is the top side operator?
The bolt(?!?) holding the lift would just happen to loosen causing the chair to fall. The cable is more likely to fall off the sheaves than the grip holding the chair breaking.
Side note: Any experienced skier would not lose their glove on the lift. I take it they were Turkeys.
Getting your hand cut up on the cable is absurd. A frayed cable ruins the sheaves and bull wheels. Besides, you have gloves, jacket, etc to protect your hands.

 :laugh2:

Reading about it is one thing, watching it is another. Yeah, the frayed cable thing was actually retarded. I dont know where people get money to get ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- like this made.  :dunno
