TV w/ DVI, round or flat screen?
« on: August 16, 2003, 05:35:15 am »
Hello,

My son & I are building our first mame cabinet (I'm sure others will follow) have ordered everthing but monitor. I like the idea of a TV or PC monitor as I'd like to use for playing the newer Windows games etc and easy conf.

Is a rounded screen prefered over a flat screen TV or monitor? The WG seems to be the most authentic according to posts but limiting on running  windows.  We would like to play the mame games asteroids, galaga, dig dug, etc but also the newer games like Doom III etc.

I haven't seen it work but shouldn't the newer TV's with DVI ports run Windows with nice resolution in 800 x 600 and mame?

I'm using the nVidia GeForce MX440 card and have a DVI output on the PC.

So my question is cost not being a significant factor i.e. < $1,000 what is the best monitor option for running Windows games and mame? Is there a prefereable screen size from posts it seems like you  should stay on the smaller size 21" - 27"?  I've found many PC monitors available 24" - 29" and if you shop around the prices are less than $ 1,000.

Any advice is greatly appreciated and we'd like to thank everyone for all of the wonderful advice and knowledge we have already learned from the discussions! -Scott & Kyle
