Converting my arcade monitor to PC
« on: December 09, 2010, 07:06:17 pm »
Hey there. I'm desperately trying to figure out how to connect my Jamma arcade monitor to a VGA cable and then to a PC. So far I've gotten nowhere.

Here's my arcade cabinet:

Here are the wires coming from my arcade cabinet's monitor:

It seems like the white wire and striped wire are unrelated to the monitor/extra wiring.

And here are the wires to the vga cable:

My question is which ones exactly do I connect?

In my opinion the easiyest way to do what your trying to do is to use an arcadeVGA video card and J-pac. You can get both at:

Well, I'm aware of that option. I'm just curious if this is possible so I don't have to spend more money on it.

You don't.

Since you've already got all those stripped wires you'll just want to build a little VGA->Arcade Monitor harness.

There are several threads active right now discussing this. In a nut shell you'll connect pins 1(R), 2(G), 3(B), 14(VSync), 13(Hsync) to their respective pins on your monitor. The Red green and blue wires from your first picture are probably correctly color coded.

You'll want to run the program Soft15Khz to enable the low resolution modes that an arcade monitor requires. There's a thread on that too.

Probably want to start poking around the Wiki and reading up on various video topics. It's not as straight forward most of the time as it seems.
