Vertical games crashing with ArcadeVGA
« on: December 01, 2010, 09:12:58 pm »
OK, it's been a few years since I built a MAME cab and now I'm having a problem.  I've got a New Astro City Japanese 'candy cab', a PC with XP, a J-Pac and an ArcadeVGA.
I''ve installed the AVGA drivers, and the video card seems to be working fine.
I ran the ArcadeVGA resolution tool.
The J-Pac passes video through, but the cabinet controls don't work so I have to use the keyboard.  I'm pretty sure this is a seperate non related issue, I bought the J-Pac used.

What's happening is that horizontal games run fine, but pretty much all vertical games crash.  If I run mame from the command line I see they crash with an 'access violation'.  If I set hwstretch to 1 in the ini file it will run, but it doesn't look quite 'right'.

I just checked the version of MAME I'm running, and it's 0.103.  I thought I had a newer version, but I can't find it now.  I'll have to get a newer version and see if it has the same issue.

Any thoughts?  I'm thinking it's some simple setting that I'm missing.

Newer version of MAME has fixed the crashing.
J-Pac control issue has been fixed by using a PS2 cable instead of the PS2 to USB I had been using.
