Touchscreen monitor help

Can anyone tell me if a 15" ELO ET1527L touchscreen is worth buying? I'm look at one for $85 shipped to door, just don't know enough about them to know if they are any good?

it's not bad BUT... the screen is terrible by todays standards. its got about 450:1 contrast ratio... so the blacks are a little grey, and a max resolution of 1024 x 768, so if you need a larger resolution then that, i wouldn't bother. the touch controller is serial, so be sure your computer has an available port, as often new boards/computers aren't even coming with them anymore. It has built in speakers, fine for system alerts, but not so good for music.

but if you need touch, there you go. what are you using it for? if your just using it for a jukebox project or the like, it should do fine.

I have one of those ELO ET1545L's in my Slot/Juke/Game machine, works great for it's purpose.

Just note that the plastic bezel you see does NOT come off.
(well, it'll come off, but you would have custom build a frame for it then)
The plastic bezel holds the touchscreen overlay in place.

I'm kind of partial to the bezel. A can of spray paint will do it some good though. Since you have this monitor, can you walk me through the hook up process? I'd really appreciate it!

some double sided sticky tape will hold it on fine to the metal surround. I used black fabric hockey tape to cover over the edges of the screen. it looks pretty good... but a can of spray paint will work too.

Notes, the ELO is not exclusively serial. Mine is USB.

Correct, the bezel does not come off, but it has through holes you can use for mounting.

Most touchscreens you could get away with that just fine.
But these have a touchscreen overlay that is considerably larger than the LCD screen itself.
So some extra care and fabrication would be in order to "frame" the monitor.

I only mentioned the bezel thing because it seems like the first question any asks about these is "how do I take the bezel off ? " (wanting to mount them into a square hole and frame them so to speak)

I ended up leaving the bezel on mine and painting it, but my project was an odd fitting situation anyways.

Really all you need are the ELO drivers, cables, and it's pretty much plug and play after that.
If I recall I used XPU4.8.7b.exe for WinXP on my machine.
