Discontinued PS3/PC sitdown showcase
« on: November 08, 2010, 05:55:48 am »
I pretty much finished my first cabinet and now I want to start a new one.  It was a choice between a cocktail or a showcase cab.  I went with the later because I wanted to play more fighter games and beat em ups. The vertical cab pretty much covers any games I would play on the cocktail anyway.

I stumbled across DCsegaDH's showcase cab and I decided to design my own in the same way.  I wanted to make the cab into two different parts though.  Instead of having the control panel pedestal and the monitor connected, they would be independent of each other.

I decided to put my old x-arcade control panel to good use for this project.  I took it off of my first cabinet and it was pretty much collecting dust ever since I made the decision to make the first cab a vert one.  I attached some pics of what I have at the moment.  I put the x-arcade on an adjustable barstool and the 32 inch lcd on a wooden block that also sits on a barstool.  The pedestal panel will probably be build first.  I hope to make the panel have some sort of hinge so that there is easy access.  I might even add a coin door, but I am not good at working with wood so we'll see how that goes.  You'll notice that the first stick is missing, that's because the stick is being used for the vert cab.  It's a jlw-tm-8.  Going to have to buy another one sometime soon.

I'm going to document this project better than the last one.  I hope to update soon!

Hi guys, I just wanted to post what I have done so far for this project.

I at first wanted to make a showcase panel, but I also wanted a sit down.  So the idea to make a sit down/showcase setup came to mind.  So I did the measurements and went out and bought the wood.

Here is one of the boards used.

After measuring and cutting the pieces, I used corner braces to hold the bottom with the sides.

You'll notice here that the x-arcade is held in place by a couple of small, flat braces on each side.  I plan on removing these.

I cut off the extra length from the sides so that they more fit the control panel.  The bottom lengthens out as it goes down, but I'm not sure if it is reliably stable.

The bottom piece sticks out from the bottom and provides the extra support.  I might remove the extra length if the sides provide enough support.

I had an extra piece of wood from one of the boards so I decided to just throw it on the front and use corner braces to keep it in place for now.  I plan on using glue once I figure everything out.

Here is a pic of a computer chair in front of the panel.

This is a pic showing the monitor in regards to the chair and the control panel.

I'm going to have to buy some more wood to help finish this up.  I have never really made anything with wood before.  If you guys have any pointers for what I should do with this, I'd be glad to hear them.

I can't wait to finish the pedestal and move on to the monitor!  I'll update again once I finish putting the panel together!

I am done with this project.  I'm going to ditch the box and use the buttons and all for my dynamo cabinet that I just started on.
