exiting mala to explorer not working
« on: November 07, 2010, 08:50:10 pm »
i'm almost done setting my computer up to go in the cab, final bits are to hide windows and have it load directly to mala.

so i got instant sheller, applied it, and it works great, BUT, when i exit mala, i just get dumped to a blank screen, i have the GUI tab, mala exit set to start 'explorer.exe' but it dosent do it, i tried 'C:\windows\explorer.exe' but still no go.

i get up task manager with crtl-alt-del, and i goto start process, start new task, and enter 'explorer' and it brings up the file explorer in the 'desktop' folder,

i've browsed to the explorer.exe, but still it wont start up, just brings up the file explorer... is there another command/exe to start up the windows gui??

When explorer isnt running, i can still navigate to proggies by going to there .exe's in the file explorer, full internet works and so on, just no GUI.

i removed the instant sheller stuff, and it's back to normal with explorer starting with windows,

so i get up task manager, 'end task' for explorer, and explorer shuts down, so i start task 'explorer' and it starts up.... but if i do that again whilst explorer is already running, it brings up the file explorer i'm getting when i try to start explorer after exiting mala.

anyone know what's going wrong?? i'm running XP with SP3.

it's kinda like explorer is running, but hidden, hence when i start explorer 'again' it brings up file explorer.

When I performed this action under Vista (including c:\windows\explorer.exe), I was asked if the program might require to run as an administrator. Perhaps your XP is hiding explorer from you because you do not have sufficient privileges.

i've only got one account set up, and it's the administrator account,

i have read a lot of people get this problem, and most undo the instant sheller to get into explorer after a re-boot, or some use a 2nd account, and log into it when they need to work on the system.

i was hoping for an easy solution, of having mala exit and explorer start up, but i guess it aint gonna work on my machine,

Sorted it.... here's what to do:

You need to have 2 accounts on your system, i have them both with admin privelages,
then in instant sheller, check the box that says 'shell only for the current logged in user'

don't click that box if you only have on account, as it screws up, wont load at all, and have to go into safe mode and undo the sheller, then safe mode again and re-apply sheller with out the current user box checked... you gan guess how i found that out.

i didnt bother with the 'change cursor to black dot' and the mouse cursor dosent show up during start up, but it's there when you right click in mala to change things, and it's there when you exit mala, which now starts up explorer.

so i'm about done with the computer, just need to finish the CP, and install everything.
