Goldeneye for Wii
« on: November 06, 2010, 12:00:41 pm »
So how many's played this so far?

I've played it with the Wiimote for a few hours last night, and I don't know if I just suck at it, but the controls with the Wiimote are atrocious.  Very difficult to control the reticule especially when needing to utilize the ADS in quick successive actions.  It doesn't make much sense, as I'm proficient at Metroid.  I've tried all the differing control levels on this, and none of them seem to help.  I don't think I'd ever be able to go through 007 classic difficulty with the Wiimote.

I'll be trying the GC controller, which should be easier.

Controls aside, this game is pretty dang good.  Haven't checked the multiplayer yet.  Got a small 3-6 page SOC paper to work on for today, so the game'll have to wait.

The majority of opinions I've seen have said to use the Gamecube controller. I'm surprised they didn't just release an N64 style controller for it.

Because they did release a controller for it?

Yes, I'm aware of that. I just wish they would've released an N64 style. Would've been great for N64 VC games.

Me too.  N64 games are just not the same with the GC controller.

I've been hearing good things about this one and I almost picked it up the other day, but figured I'd wait to see what others said.  My buddies and I did have a lot of fun with this back in the day on the N64, but I'm really not a multiplayer fan, so I'm gonna wait to see if the single player experience is worth dropping $50.00 for.

So far I've not recognized any of the multiplayer maps, and the multiplayer setup is a little weird, as each player chooses their gun and player.  Oddjob is still a cheap little midget (but allows for more BOOM! HEADSHOT!)  Proximity mines can't be flashbanged.  Only shot or blown with other explosives, so well placed proxes will be difficult to circumvent.

It has a few new missions, and some classics, which are definitely different, because the maps are so different.  Multi options are somewhat limited regarding gametype and maps.  I assume more are locked/hidden.  I'd like to see OHKO mode again.  Some options are just silly.  The "No camp" mode where you die after being stationary for more than a few seconds is nice, but the timer is too short.  Not even enough time to check the scores.  You'll die within three or so seconds.  It lasts longer if you've run a long time, but most I've lived was about six seconds.  I think it needs to be about 10-15.  Another option is "singularity" mode, where players explode if they touch each other.  Just silly.

Paintball mode is available, as are options to remove radar and such.

I'll be waiting on a save file online to unlock some more stuff.  (With Black Ops coming in a few days, won't have much time to invest in unlocking things myself.)
